In a way yes. - NeoWest will be US+non-China Asia (and poor Israel, surrounded by lunatics). - EAME will be Europe and its new Islamist BFFs. The new third world, with nukes but no AI. (Unless they pull a South Africa and disable the nukes before Sharia takes over, which could happen.) - China will be the new USSR. Claiming to love EAME while despising them and having much more in common with the NeoWest. - India will be like Mexico or Turkey. Constantly split between intellectually wanting to be NeoWest and emotionally wanting to be EAME. Will (justifiably) never be trusted by the NeoWest, but will be so useful for various purposes that they will be tolerated. Yes yes, EU has Mistral right now. But for how long? Would anyone here be surprised to learn tomorrow that al of Mistral had lost patience with Europe and moved to Texas? This will either be my most prophetic post ever, or will be held over me for the rest of my life as extreme hubris! I guess we'll see in a decade or so, maybe even just five years.

Yes and no. Look at On the no side: - the money is administered by FEMA but comes from a different pool from disaster relief - the claim is that the average room rate is $152 On the yes side: - NYC has "right to shelter" laws, and it's unclear why the rest of the nation should subsidize whatever programs NYC wants to implement? - NYC is a sanctuary city and, once again, why should the Feds subsidize NYC policy? - If we go by actual law, this is presumably housing for illegal immigrants waiting to be processed, and it's hardly a human rights violation to house such people in less than hotel accommodation, like tents on the southern border. It's unclear why shipping them to the most expensive cities in the nation while they wait to be processed makes sense. The article continually tries to blur the distinction between "immigrants" and "illegal immigrants" but reading carefully certainly suggests "illegal immigrants". Ultimately the article tries to suggest that this is all reasonable consequence of existing policy, without engaging the point that "if so, then existing policy needs to be modified".

Taken "South Africa" or *South Africans* by surprise? The people I've talked to are surprised by it and say they feel the expropriation law is just more nonsense that won't affect them, won't change much, will not lead to Zimbabwe. They, presumably, have a better feel for the real situation than we do? But I don't know.

@cremieuxrecueil "because they're so recently developed" You omit the possibility of going backwards... South Africa, in particular, was not 3rd world 30 years ago, now is. Gaza maybe the same? Cuba (kinda relevant...)? Myanmar? The exact dates vary, but the going backwards is hard to deny.

We may be seeing a version of this w/ USAID when all the dust clears. Certainly most 3rd world stats are much better than they used to be, and a lot of this may even be the result of Western Aid. BUT even apart from all the LGBTQ and the grift, the people running these aid programs continually lied about how bad the situation was, presumably believing that this would keep the money going. What it has done instead is foster a general belief that 70 years of aid has achieved absolutely nothing and the whole thing should be shut down... The ultimate own goal. Covid. HIV. Foreign aid. It's almost like "strategic lying" to the public is in fact a very bad idea...

Well it goes both ways: You can see it all starting with Loser in 1994, but you can also see that trend as leading to Tumblr and then to Trans, and the whole attitude of "you must not only accept my loserdom but worship me as superior to your bourgeois competence" that gets us to Trump winning 2024.

Before getting too excited about it 1. TYPE of poll? As far as I can tell, it was "self-reported", ie catnip for the nutcases. 2. WHO are these R anti-semites? Again, as far as I can tell, they are substantially not the mainstream white voter but non-whites. Which again may not be where you want to go... Both of these points may be false, but they're the best I can come up with after following the twitter trail through a few levels without ever hitting the actual poll described properly.

WHY did gay marriage flip? Understand that and you'll understand where the rest of us are coming from... You think Gay Marriage means Will & Grace. But for most of the country Gay Marriage was this: Some of it is fine, but then there is 3, 6, 8, 9, 10... When you allow the crazies to determine your agenda ('you" in this 1972 case does not mean Dems, it means gays) you will be judged accordingly. The Ds can come in from the cold once it's not the crazies determining the agenda. Which will likely be a generation. Trans will likely, at some point, be in the same place as late 90s gay marriage. But only once the current crazies are replaced by reasonable people like Andrew Tobias and Andrew Sullivan; people demanding ONE REASONABLE thing, not the overthrow of society.

@AutismCapital You're literally seeing, before your eyes what Nietzsche meant, or Girard, or the term beta cuck. This is what most people literallu ARE -- not thinkers, not principled, just followers who think whatever they are told to think.

This is a puppy hostage argument. The universities are spending this "infrastructure" money on sports, dorms, student centers DEI co-ordinators, and the rest of it. And you're demanding that all of those must be saved or you'll shoot the puppy of science. But the age of puppy hostages is over.

@shlevy The obvious remedy is to tell Treasury to refuse to issue checks until this is sorted out. Play hardball, hard. Yes, that will result in a lot of squealing. But surely the people who demanded this law suit are not so mercenary that that's what's important to them...

As I keep saying, the Big Lie of Modernity is that we are all equal. We cannot fix unfortunate cases like this if we insist on the Big Lie. But certain people and groups have weaponized the Big Lie so aggressively that it’s impossible to unwind, even in these egregiously unfortunate cases.
