āā¦just 4 industries ā tobacco, alcohol, unhealthy foods and fossil fuels ā are linked to 7,400 preventable deaths EVERY DAY in Europe and Central Asiaā
New York, amid #UNGA. Outlining a bold new vision to tackle non-communicable diseases - the biggest 'silent killers' of our time. We have less than a year before the @UN High-Level Global Meeting on #NCDs. Our š stands little chance of achieving the @GlobalGoalsUN / SDG NCDs targets if we donāt act now. In the @WHO_Europe Region, 90% of deaths are caused by NCDs, including mental health conditions. Further, just 4 industries ā tobacco, alcohol, unhealthy foods and fossil fuels ā are linked to 7,400 preventable deaths EVERY DAY in Europe and Central Asia! The aggressive tactics these industries use cannot be allowed to continue unchecked. We have the tools ā taxes, advertising bans, and marketing restrictions - on harmful products. We can use regulation, accountability, and transparency to deal with corporate interests. But ā shackled by industry pressure - countries are not implementing these approaches quickly enough. It is time for us all to push forward with greater resolve. 1/
