🚨 Hackney Council is about to greenlight a dangerous junction redesign at Pembury Circus.
Their plans don't align with their own Vision Zero policy to eliminate traffic deaths. Worse, they KNOW a safer, more efficient design exists, and they're ignoring it.

@SarahWoodberryD
We have spent the last few months mapping every street in Hackney. We have created a vision for cycling and walking to be the default modes for journeys in the borough.

Schools go back tomorrow. Hackney has taken a no nonsense approach to child welfare. 40 (forty) new

coming ASAP. Clear message: don't drive near schools.
Scenes from this morning’s school run in Middleton Rd
I’m seeing more and more kids cycling to school since the
@enjoyLDNfields
low traffic neighbourhood has been in place.
Cycling on Lea Bridge Road used to be scary, dangerous and not for kids. A huge shout to those who have enabled this transfomation!

One of the leading opponents of traffic changes in Hackney is desperate to manipulate figures so as to strengthen her case. This cynical plan should be condemned.
In the last 2 days there have been 2 serious collisions involving cyclists here in Hackney on main roads. The pace of change around main roads is too slow. We need more action
We have been asked a number of times by a Hackney Councillor how to turn right when using a protected lane. So we've made him a video. Feel free to share
We have just had a report that the serious collision on Friday evening on Seven Sisters Road involved a cyclist and a bus. The rider has sustained critical injuries. We sincerely hope the rider pulls through. We also remind

Harry Webb, a 27-year-old music student, was seriously injured in a collision on 10 September, and subsequently died of his injuries on a stretch of road where campaigners have repeatedly called for action after previous road collisions and near-misses.

📢 PROTEST RIDE
5:30pm, Wednesday 18 October
Meet on Mabley St, E9
There were two fatal collisions involving cyclists in Hackney last month.
Please join a protest ride to demand action to ensure no further serious & fatal collisions occur on Whiston Rodd & Kenworthy Road.
That this route is not safe enough. A cycleway should have been completed here years ago, and the delays in implementation are being paid for with the lives of Londoners. We call on
@willnorman
to make a statement this week.
We are grateful to everyone who joined us tonight. We would like to express our sincere condolences to the families of Harry and Gao Gao who also came to this protest.
#VisionZero
The massive increase in families cycling during
#covid
shows it is excess car numbers suppressing cycling in the UK. We have a vision to make Hackney the best place to walk and cycle in the UK
Excellent new school street on Thornhill Road in Islington. Use of parking enforcement officers as on street guides is very effective.
@RichardWatts01
@IslingtonBC
It's 2020. This road has seen 4 fatal pedestrian collisions in 12 months.

priorities:
Slower street ❌
Cycle tracks ❌
Improved pavements ❌
Super new smooth wide tarmac ✅
Drivers using rat-runs greatly worsen the environment for walking and cycling. Watch this family trying to cross a tiny side-road next to a nursery, playground and council housing.

Work on Green Lanes to start soon. Providing protected lanes from Manor House to Petherton Road. Then we can cycle and not share with TV watching drivers.
Haringey: ripping out cycle lanes
Tower Hamlets: Abandoning liveable neighbourhoods after 1 day
Newham: Abandoning Low Traffic Neighbourhoods after 1 day
All with supposed

declared, spending £ks on making life easier for those in cars.
This comment by a leading member of the 'horrendous Hackney roads' campaign is quite remarkable. This person stood for election against measures to reduce traffic and denies the very real data on Londoners dying.

Human Streets in Hackney. Although the main carrigeway will re-open to motor vehicles, the transformation of Queensbridge Road gives us all a glimpse of how cities can change for the better. Thank you

@TfL
After 9 years,
@feryaldemirci
is handing over the baton of transport. We would like to thank her for an amazing legacy for Hackney. School streets, play streets, protected cycle lanes, pedestrianised areas and the most progressive transport policy in UK
Low Traffic Neighbourhoods are helping reduce traffic and improve air quality.
Our aim is to go even further by reducing traffic by 15% by 2026.
Here is why:
This vision includes 32 liveable neighbourhoods. Building on decades of work by the council, including over 100 street filters - this plan will transform Hackney.
Whilst cycle tracks may be far from peoples minds right now,
@hackneycouncil
have plans to transform Green Lanes N4. Say yes and ask for wider tracks and better junctions: our response here
DEADLINE FRIDAY
We have taken a lot of criticism recently for supporting more Low Traffic Neighbourhoods. But yet again, there is clear evidence that they save lives. This sits alongside data showing traffic reductions and increases in walking and cycling.
The celebration of
#quietways
in London does no one any favours. They are poor in branding and execution. It's why we are concentrating on filters and protected lanes.
People can relax now when walking or cycling. They are prioritised over motor traffic. Everyone I spoke to here was enthusiastic about the traffic reduction and said the area had transformed for the better. 2/2
Great work
@hackneycouncil
When people say cycling infrastructure is expensive; it's worth noting this single bypass cost more than the 10 year cycling budget of a city with 8million people.
It is incredible how quickly
@hackneycouncil
can find enforcement for a pedal cycle, but not pavements like this which have been reported many many times!
We've heard reports of another serious collision involving a cyclist in Homerton this morning.
This ahead of a Protest Ride in a week's time calling for
#SaferStreets
.
Just heart breaking.
Quick site visit to

today. The

team hard at work creating these beautiful and heavy filters. Weigh about 2 tonnes when fully loaded. The trees are Himalayan Birch.
Tfl: 80% of TfL’s income coming from fares and commercial revenue, this has had a devastating impact on the organisation’s finances. TfL remains in discussion with Government about support to ensure the transport network can play its full part in restarting London’s economy.
I’m delighted to announce that Church Street will be closed to through traffic in the daytime to help reimagine Stoke Newington.
Tackling the climate crisis starts local, and working together with our communities, we will rebuild a greener Hackney.

We are distressed to hear that a 36 year old woman has been killed on Whiston Road. We extend our condolences to the woman's family and friends.
This follows another serious collision on Kenworthy Road last week.
It is beyond comprehension that
@tfl
have signed off on

at the same time as London boroughs are trying to massively reduce vehicle numbers. This shows the true colours of the current administration.
Whilst
@RBKC
is busy ignoring

we will be joining
@hackneycouncil
tomorrow to formally open Wick Road Cycle tracks. Making active travel possible for all, and a clear statement about the future of our city
Cyclists have been raising this junction as an issue for years.
This is a good addition to de Beauvoir LTN as it is due to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year.
Thank you to the families that joined the Hackney feeder ride to

& to our HCC members who marshaled.
Approx. 100 people on the feeder celebrating kids on bike.
We,
