Most ignorant take I have ever heard on this. Americans should know the same facts about their country as those taking the naturalization test; it’s the least they can do. In the process, they might also gain a deeper understanding of civic duty and recognize that they, too, are part of the “We the People” doctrine; the very foundation that makes the U.S. strong as a nation. Most teenagers in the US haven’t got a clue that they too can make a difference in this country as a citizen. Most of them think that civics is some burdensome class that takes time away from social media. Things have to change if we are going to keep this great system alive. We can start by making a civics course akin to the naturalization exam a compulsory requirement in schools.
