the man retires from the isu competition and then skates a competitive program that no one in the current field could top in terms of transitions and musicality
why people who dislike Yuzuru Hanyu need to focus on some (mostly invented) personal life facts to criticize him instead of explaining why they don’t like his skating? oh, I forgot, there is not much to dislike about his skating…
is ms trusova leaving eteri bc (1) she is fed up with her, (2) she wants to be closer to her bf, (3) eteri rink is getting shut down bc of the kamilagate, or (4) all of the above
“being a good coach is not about smiling with your skaters in the kiss and cry”
also being a good partner is not about demonstratively hugging your partner in the kiss and cry. holy shit. I feel so bad for Gabi.
the debate about Kaori vs Waka is sure interesting, but it should not distract us from the fact that Mariah is 4th at the Worlds with zero triple-triple, zero transitions and the slowest step sequences of the comp

putting unnecessary pressure on teenagers who are about to make their very first appearance on the senior grand prix circuit while also announcing they will be immensely overscored there, knowing perfectly well that it will piss skating fans
Deniss Vasiljevs: “Time must pass, the war must end, everyone must look at what happened and understand the situation, and only then can we start talking about admission of Russian athletes.”

« ilia landing the 4A is an incredible achievement that should be applauded » and « ilia can’t skate and gets inflated pcs scores bc of the usfsa » are equally true statements & can coexist. the first should not close your eyes on the 2nd, but the 2nd should not devalue the first
kanadai serving us the most fast-paced and complex rd transitions-wise, the most sophisticated pattern step and the most electrifying choreo sequence. absolutely gorgeous
asking myself whether with Yuzuru becoming a pro, there will be an impetus for the professionals’ competitions rebirth. I would love to see a different kind of tournaments, less focused on quadruples and more on skating & spins but also with more room for choreographic expression
New detail from CAS report: Kamila Valieva said the prohibited substance entered her body through the consumption of a strawberry dessert made by her grandfather on chopping board where he crushed his heart medicine. CAS said that “was not corroborated by any concrete evidence.”
Amazing progress! According to the ISU judges, in less than a year, Ilia Malinin improved his PCS by 5 points in the short program only (which would yield 10 points in the free w factoring). He improved his TR score from 6.82 to 8.00 by skating the same program w/o adding new TR!
we all agree that banning Russia was a right thing to do, but I still don’t get y’all fantasizing about Worlds being a perfect non-corrupt event with the fairest scoring and “deserving ones getting what they ought”. Have you considered the thought of Mariah winning PCS if clean?
French figure skater Adam Siao Him Fa just did an illegal backflip in competition at the European Championships, deliberately incurring a deduction, as a flex of his confidence that he would win anyway. He did, in fact, win.
loena openly and explicitly talking about how the doping scandal affected her perception of fairness of this sport, about puberty & skating, healthy perception of her body, growth, and relationship with food is something we need to hear more
Buyanova is not a great coach either, but apparently less abusive than Eteri, so I take it as a win. And Kosto to CSKA means her scores won’t be tanked the next season compared to any other non-Eteri club she could have picked. And she also can get decent choreo
Deniss Vasiljevs: “Skaters often say in interviews that they'll fight. Why do they think of competitions as a war? I see myself as an artist, not a gladiator.”

imagine missing junior worlds last year and then coming back with such an amazing quality of skating skills, musicality, expression and complex transitions, breaking two junior world records
While I am temporarily laying low with my Olympic content in order not to get suspended again, stream this beautiful throw quadruple salchow from 2016 performed by reigning Olympic champions, Sui & Han!
genuinely convinced that the Russian ban should be maintained in order for y’all to realize the extent of overscoring of the American athletes in all the disciplines
does it ever drive you crazy that there is an entire figure skating discipline where, if you want to be a medal contender, you don’t always have to continuously improve your skills but instead can just stay around long enough while also being with the right fed or coach
what the~
step sequences in juniors are essential because it incentivizes juniors to work not only on jumps, but on skating as well, and to develop good basics… I hate that there is less juniors with good skating and more juniors w jump drills these past seasons, but ISU love it
Aymoz said his coach Silvia Fontana suggested Bolero. He was initially reluctant but was then inspired by a French dance troupe's performance to Bolero. "I'm going to tell my story of Bolero, my version." The choreo is challenging--"Something's happening every second."

I get why y’all are mad at ISU but let’s admit that even w 5 components PCS scores made absolutely zero sense. 5 categories never prevented Nathan or Trusova from getting 9s in every category, it’s not as if it was an effective safeguard from judging abuse
so this is how a free program without a step sequence looks like… kudos to Jia for actual transitions in and out jumps and spins to make up for it but isu should know that nothing replaces a good stsq 😭
kaori nailing all of her backloaded jumps in the sp “moonlight sonata” at her first olympics in pyeongchang 2018 and on her first year as a senior skater

if i, a small fed skater with limited training and politicking opportunities, were always losing to grossly overscored & potentially drugged teenagers w bigger training facilities since the age five despite their skating skills being as shite as mine, i too would have been angry
radical thought: skating skills is a way too complex/multi-faceted component to be evaluated via an average mark. to be more precise with the scoring, it should be divided into 2 separate categories, one dedicated to stroking technique/power/acceleration, the other to edgework
