I will no longer post here. I have watched the site's owner turn what had been the world's public space into a cesspit. His action at yesterday's inauguration was the last straw. I will keep the account but can be found elsewhere, on Blue Sky and LinkedIn.

The time has come. The site has become less usable. Less relevant content in my feed and less tweet impressions. I'm joining the Great Migration to the blue place. I'll still keep a presence and post here, but the bulk of my efforts will be there.

While I knew about the football teams and performances of Soviet teams, I wasn't so informed about the politics behind them. So this was a really useful conversation that @DrFrancescoBelc and I had with @yacovzohn. Do check it out!

Our new episode is now out! We spoke to @YacovZohn about football in the Soviet Union and after, in the successor states of Russia, Ukraine and Georgia. A really informative chat. We hope you think so too! Check the link out here:

My latest mini-podcast is out, where I look at the broader issues of wildfires, climate change and how to respond to them--and how human are bad at being proactive in this regard.

I really enjoyed recording this with @DrFrancescoBelc. I love learning about topics and parts of the world that aren't my specialism. I hope you enjoy listening to it as well.

My first mini-podcast of the New Year is out! After Elon Musk's attacks on British politics and politicians, I reflected on why people listen to him--and based on my holiday reading, why some other voices aren't listened to within government.

We're back! Happy New Year to all our listeners! Check out our start of the year chat where we talk about what football/political issues stood out for them in 2024 and what to expect in 2025. Think Women's Euros, World Club Cup and Euro Super League.

My new mini-podcast is out, where I look at South Korea President Yoon's botched self-coup and compare it to other successful and failed ones. It's still in the news after Saturday's impeachment, so worth a listen. Check it out!

It. Is. Done! (well, OK, only the first draft) But finally I have something completed after thinking, talking, researching and occasionally writing about a particular project for the past 20 years! Now to find a publisher...

My new minipodcast is out. Rather than speculate on Syria's future, I looked at some of the past literature on post-civil war settlements and whether military victories or agreements make a difference. I think it's informative. Do have a listen and share!

@DrFrancescoBelc @ianbremmer @ProSyn What amazes me is how this guy continues to spout his genetic punditry and get coverage over people who actually know stuff!

@phillyharper @paulmasonnews Let me expand on what he means. Let them lay down their guns and ask the people. Whether that happens is ultimately up to the armed men though, sadly.

Quite right. Whatever happens tomorrow, its for Syrians to decide and us to support them. Today we should all celebrate. 🇸🇾

I want to address politically engaged Brits on here who seem to all be saying the same thing. What comes next is worse. We don't know what will come next, or how it will emerge. Yes it could be HTS...it might also not be. We don't know. But it's for Syrians to chose NOT US.

I was asked by this Pakistani outfit to talk about China in the Middle East and prospects for becoming a conflict mediator. Short version? Unlikely unless it invests more capital. But that may also challenge the approach it's so far taken.

My new mini-podcast is out. While the media has focused on the advances made by rebels in Syria, I look at the current state of the conflict there and what's changed since the bulk of fighting ended 6 years ago.

Our new book is out--at least the e-version. Don't worry, I'll mention the print version when it's out next month! Great that it's finally reaching you all but also much credit to @Dr_Robert_Mason for proposing it and @BanafshKeynoush for her chapters.
