Legacy Archipelago: a series of systems built one after another, each aimed to replace the previous one. For each step the new system only covered ~80% of the original functionality so the previous one was never decommissioned. All versions in use. [v1]->[v2]->[v3]->[v4]->[v5]

At the end @Rebecca_SPaul and I managed to get Kim Leadbeater to admit that under her Bill a person would be able to get an Assisted Death for the sole reason of saving their relatives money. 3/3

Am reminded once again today that the one thing that does scale really really well, regardless of the situation or system, is cost

Good write-up of scatter-gather vs. interdisciplinary team. Unfortunately scatter-gather now seems to be the norm; "unteams". So disappointing.

Ideally, work is done quickly with maximum parallelism, since each task is given to the dev who can best complete it, and with changes well-designed, assembling and testing it at the end should not be too difficult or untimely... ... HOWEVER....

This dysfunction is so so common in large organisations. Multiple groups all vying for power, fighting for the unspecified (or poorly defined) middle. What a waste of energy.

WHSmith in Liverpool St doesn't even stock A4 pads anymore. I don't actually get the point of them now. It's all sandwiches and painkillers, and for those there are better alternatives.

TIL: cargo doc will build docs for the local package *and* all the dependencies into target/doc. Useful when trying to work on transport with crap wifi.

@garethwebber doing some survival analysis and pysurvival only works up to v3.8 (current is v3.13). you might think that a minor version difference wouldn't create any issues, but no. Needed to create a separate venv and ipykernel config, which seems to be quite an unreliable process.
