Yes it can (for real this time, running natively, not RDP)
...at least for now
See this SoC is armv8.0, not 8.1, it doesn't support atomic instructions 🙃
I got asked for it, yes it can do continuum in the sense you can attach a second display wirelessly (pc connect app only/xbox) or with a hdmi cable. This is the HP lapdock, a dummy laptop shell that has no cpu or anything. It was meant for the HP elite X3. Connects via usb c.
Updated the Lumia950XLPkg repo today in a separate branch (origin/mu) to be based on the same code that Duo uses. Satisfying to watch (yes this had android lol)
This weekend I helped port over the incredible
@FilesForWindows
app to ARM64 without any x86/x64 component left! App runs so much faster. Pull request is done and is waiting for merge. Also got a nice .NET 6 upgrade for the broker. All tested on a 950 XL
Some of you may remember that I was working on a GUI for UUP Media Creator for Windows not so long ago. Today I'm happy to report that this project has reached an important milestone and the GUI fully functional is live in the Microsoft Store 🚀
So this week was *sensor packed*
Up to 26 different sensors now working on Surface Duo running windows *including* most of the cool foldable ones.
Mostly everything.
Hinges? yes. Postures? yes. Proximity? Yup. Accelerometers? Absolutely! Flipping? Yes!
This is Windows on Surface Duo 2 as it currently stands. (Snapdragon 888 device). Windows sort of boots up, with only one cpu core. UFS works and can display something on the left. This is really it for now. And there are still a ton of issues to tackle.
A windows phone running chrome natively, rare endangered species in an unnatural habitat. Huge thanks to
@sinclairinator
for all the work, he’s the one that built the entire thing for arm64, feel free to follow him, this is awesome 🍺🍺
Was fun working on this with Zac and making it run again :)
Countless hours of reboots though *dies*. That thing is very suicidal to say the least.
Definitely check it out. I do wonder if there had been more time to work on this if it could have been in a better state.
Say hello to WOA Device Manager
This app allows you today to boot into windows on your Surface Duo and also flash FFU files. Coming later will be driver updates built right in, as well as more advanced installation method. It also fully works on arm64
I got asked to make a video of Windows 11 on the Lumia 950 XL, so here you go:
A (very) quick (and rushed) look at Windows 11 running on a Lumia 950 XL after a day of work
Having a go at redesigning the settings apps we have for LumiaWOA to match Windows 11 a bit better, I think this should do the job. After/before comparison
We got a page running again for the LumiaWOA project listing all sub projects and the current status of the project as well, thanks to the help of
@itsMichaelWest
for the design. (Thanks a lot, it's amazing)
You can check it out here:
Yesterday I also worked on merging all settings applications for the LumiaWOA project. It's now a single app, easy to find, right from the start menu. Also had a go at updating the UX a bit :)
So what did I hint at the other day? Seamless splash! Well, now the device boots into the OS without any weird display initialization issue, and faster, and much smoother / seamless. This one was tricky to figure out
What if Twitter Web was native? Had some fun working on this today. Originally started it as a joke during lunch break. Ended up continuing it during the evening. Might turn into a legit option in
@FeniceWindows
It happened! Cellular partially works! Just no LTE right now. Thanks to at least 6 people for testing helping and all! Will need to polish everything up now.
If you ever get lost somewhere (that chance is already low) and you happen to find a random 950 XL (even lower) and it has woa (now it's impossible), you can now find your way back home using GPS.
Windows 10X when running under a Dual Screen device and wired up to an external display does give you the option to pick which display you want mirror, or mirror both; or cast a specific app.
The emulator also supports emulating an external display.
I don't think many people
Still impressed by the 950 XL battery life in standby at least after
@imbushuo
added the Processor information ACPI table into his UEFI, we went from poor battery life in standby to close if not better than mobile, forgot that phone for 8 hours, and it's at 57% battery.
Here's a short update on Cellular for 950 XL:
We got a Mobile Broadband Driver running. It is able to read the SIM slot, turn on the Modem, read the SIM card, start the Modem firmware, turn on or off the radios at will (I've checked), communicate w/ OS, but no Data working yet.
Surface Go 2 Base Model (64GB eMMC, 4GB of RAM, Pentium Gold Y series CPU) vs Surface Duo 1 (128GB USA)
Each opening file explorer in the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview (Canary Channel)
Spent the week re-making the Color Profile Nokia had on Lumias for Windows 10 Desktop. Works quite well right now, I also spent time wiring it up to the color profile quick actions on Windows 10 (some surface devices have that toggle). Advanced is configurable in the app.
So this weekend I noticed a relatively new documentation page for what seems to be tap to wake functionality in Windows 11. Seems very new, decided to try it out by implementing it on Lumia 950s, works like a charm.
Sorry in advance for the lack of details and screenshots and videos of 10X on the 950. The thing is this week i have my schedule a bit full. There is also a lot of behind the scenes work I’m doing, not just on this. And i currently lack the right gear to do better quality pics :/
This is getting somewhere
It's a bit choppy because I enabled DWM effects and this has no GPU driver
Definitely in a much better state than two years ago (time flies! =) )
Having all cores helps, Surface Duo 2 w/ Windows might end up being a reality afterall in the near future
