My class size will get bigger, NOT next year but next semester, because an educator will not be returning after the break. Across the country, we have educators who will be going home for the break and will not be back.
Just got the news. I will now be teaching 6th grade math. The instability in education is very concerning. I need positive vibes, because I don't know...
I really appreciate our state legislators for making teacher pay raise a priority this session. But any bill that does not include our education support professionals does NOT go far enough. Who do you think are covering our classes that don't have teachers in them?
Today I turned in my intent to resign paperwork. After 17 years in classroom, it’s time to move on to my next assignment. Although I have no idea what that assignment is, I have no doubt that it will be impactful.
Just had a conversation with cashier at Walmart. She tells me that she is also a high school English teacher. Teachers should not have to work two jobs!
Growing up in Lawrence County, I was surrounded by Black Male educators. So I’m not surprised I became one myself. After 17 years as a classroom teacher, this is my final week. But I’m so excited about what’s next! Just know that it will still be about students and families.
My wife and I tried something new. Only 15 locations in the US and Canada and one of them is right here in Jackson, MS. If you’re here, check out Kyuramen.
I'm not a JSU insider. I just live and serve in this city. Jackson is a resilient city. Even through all the challenges and negative media coverage, the city perseveres. This is the home of Medgar Evers. This is the City With Soul, and we ain't just talking music. JXN is good!
Arming teachers is NOT the move. People don't understand the mental highs and lows we go through. Many of us couldn't handle the responsibility. We have some unwell teachers in our schools.
People who think we need outside organizers to come in here and save Mississippi clearly are not familiar with the work of Mississippi organizers. This is the home Medgar Evers, the home of Fannie Lou, the home of Hollis Watkins.
When you go to introduce yourself to the President of Jackson State University and he says "I know who you are." Thankful for this discussion.

It's going down today! The teacher/student basketball game. I had to get me a tshirt made to make it interesting. Shout out to ! The game is a fundraiser for our 6th grade class. So you know I got to hype it up. Yall pray for me! 😆 🤣 😂
I will be starting the journey as a nonprofit consultant. I look forward to helping Mississippi nonprofits build their capacity as they serve the people
Milestone moment. I just purchased my first art piece. It just so happens that the artist is one of my math students. Not only is she a great artist but she’s also a good business person. I had to negotiate with her to get this. lol!!!
Last year, my daughter's principal was let go for reading them a silly book. He went from being let go for reading a silly book to writing his own silly book! And my daughter can't wait to read it! Thanks Mr.
@jedipadmaster
!!!
I was at the Capitol today for ”Disability Day at the Capitol.” I met this amazing little girl. As a Hinds County school board member I will advocate for our most vulnerable children.

Muffins with dad is a scam! I meet my daughter and go to the snack table. Then they directed us into the library to the Book Fair and where I was parted from my money. lol!!! But no it was awesome being amongst my brothers as we bought purposeful items for our kids.
First endorsement announcement!!! Honored to have the endorsement of the Hinds County Association of Educators! Race to November! Let’s go!

My concern is teaching my daughter math skills and then she gets to school and they teach her a whole new way which is sometimes making the uncomplicated complicated.
If you are in the city and you're looking for a great Black owned bookstore, you should check out Marshall's Bookstore on Farish Street. Barnes and Noble on Highland Colony don't have what they got.

The kids been yapping all week about beating us in the teacher/student basketball game... Who's gonna tell them I used to do this! 😆 🤣 😂

I am honored to have been invited to participate in a meeting at the White House. I'm looking forward to representing Mississippi in our nation's capital.
If you care about the education of Mississippi children and live in District 29, reelect
@SenDavidBlount
. The Jackson Association of Educators is behind him.
I see my bill died in committee! This is very disappointing. I just don’t know what the issue is with law enforcement getting autism training. Oh well, we will try again next year.
I just want to say how extremely proud I am of my wife, who ran communications for
@TyPinkins
for Secretary of State. Best of luck to them on tomorrow!
When thinking about possible engagement by law enforcement, imagine being a parent of an autistic Black son who displays behaviors that could be interpreted as noncompliance or threatening. This legislation should be passed!

I told my best friend that I would love to pursue higher education. But that student loan debt almost locked me out of the home buying process. That debt to income ratio could kill your dreams. They didn’t tell us about that when they told us to pursue college.
Some of us have the unique experience of sitting on both sides of the IEP table. It's our responsibility to use that experience to help empower the families who are struggling to navigate through the process.
I wanted Cracker Barrel this morning. I went to pick it up and ran into one of my former 5th graders. I was so happy to hear that she is doing well.

Today I had the honor of addressing our new Early Learning Institute (ELI) cohort. I am so excited about impact that this group of teacher leaders is about to make!
Rep. Chris Bell (65th) introduced a $15/hr bill for school custodian and cafeteria staff. We need all Mississippi school custodians and cafeteria staff on these calls helping him advocate.
To help make sure our students had what they needed to be successful, I’ve had to do and say things that were uncomfortable. But in time, I embraced the concept of bold leadership.

I'm not gonna lie. When a teacher decides not to come back, I take it personally. What else could I have done as a team member, as a colleague, as an education organization leader to make that teacher want to stay?
