For this very reason *no one* on the Greasepunk Paradise project team will ever reach out to a
#VoiceActor
using a DM. They're just too sketchy on this platform, and so we'll send you an email to your posted address instead (or an email address listed on your personal website).
If you’re hiring voice actors, please don’t DM us with just “hi” “hello” “hey”
Please at least mention who you are and why you’re reaching out. If you can’t write a DM, I’m nervous to see what the script will be like.
It also makes you look like a bot, and most won’t respond.
We are proud to be able to say we have paid our project's
#VoiceActors
rates of at least $250/hour, and we intend to keep it that way. However, we do try to size 1-hour recording jobs so our work does not distract them from auditioning for bigger, higher-paying opportunities.
Note this asks you to quote your rate. NU rates are $250/ 2 hours min. We encourage using:
For smaller budget indies, please check this rate guide:
As you send rates, please don’t undercut yourself or other VAs! Thank you!!
Well. That was awesome. Got a demo reel sent to me today that was just too good to pass up, and now I'm crafting a new character for her to join the prologue. Just goes to show that as a voice actor you never know when your demo could land in the right hands at the right time.
Very good advice. We do screen our
#VoiceActors
for such behavior, and it has helped us avoid working with some unprofessional (but talented) candidates. Truly a shame.
Voice actor tip:
Don’t make fun of, shame, or hate on productions for no reason. Especially on your BUSINESS/VA Twitter.
If you simply dislike the story or animation, that’s fine. But some people who have worked on it WILL see what you post. Even if it’s a huge production
After spending a weekend in the writer's room, I am pleased to say we've just finished the first draft of Scene 2 for our prologue. We've also expanded our cast with a few additional VA roles. We'll include these in our upcoming casting call later this month.
Here's another reason why we decided to be transparent about our budget. Life is tough as it is for
#VoiceActors
trying to make a living. Maybe we're just crazy, but we think being open and honest about our budget is the least we can do.
🎙️VO tip of the day
There's no magic formula for getting a client to tell you their VO budget right away❤️
But I've found quoting your usual prices and then they either pay, try to negotiate, or they tell you it's out of their budget. Suddenly then you'll know the budget 😄
Catching a lot of imposter syndrome vibes from some
#VoiceActors
lately. Reminder: perfectionism exists at all levels of the entertainment industry. It's the reason why works are never finished. They're only abandoned.
Just finished the initial recording sets from our starting VA cast, and I am completely blown away by their incredible talent. Got to tip my hat to you voice actors out there who make projects like this possible.
Would appreciate any
#VoiceActors
responding. I'm trying to get an idea of an appropriate casting call time window that works for most people. Assuming we had only a single window open at a time (1 character), what is a time duration that works best for you?
Today, in our continued efforts toward transparency, we have released our project budget. While we are not currently accepting donations, we want to set a foundation for any would-be backers to see how we run things behind the scenes. Check it out here:
We have just released our new Lore section on our website, starting with more details on a few characters and organizations in our upcoming prologue.
Check it out at:

We provide a lot of freedom to VAs on how they interpret scenes and our characters. It's why we put extra emphasis on acting abilities and training, and it's paid off so far! It's humbling for us writers sometimes because VAs really bring life to a character's believability.
Our very first casting call for the upcoming animated web comic series is officially complete! Thanks to all who auditioned, and be sure to follow for more VO opportunities coming up in the near future! Also check out our website for regular updates.
Here's a sneak peek of the art and animation work going into our upcoming 40-minute Prologue. Should be a great start to kick off the Greasepunk Paradise animated web comic series.
We support ALL
#VoiceActors
whether they choose to have union representation or not, and we look forward to celebrating their awesome work in our upcoming animated web comic series.
@JennaOliverVA
Thanks Jenna. That helps a lot. That's exactly what I was thinking. People have a lot going on, and we'll likely be doing casting calls through the busy holiday season. Seems like it's warranted to err on the side of caution and make them longer just in case.
While I am very new to engaging with the online VA community, I can already tell it is one of the warmest, welcoming corners of social media. This has made casting decisions more difficult than I thought it would be, but that's a good thing.
@diana_kennedy
Absolutely. As new characters are created I always dig into my stack of demo reels first. You can send it to john.hanke

.com.
@JoshBeardVO
We use to produce our official documents, and it's worked great so far. I think they have a free trial period where you can generate several documents without having to pay.
One of my favorite parts of writing
#screenplays
is the research. I always end up discovering and learning things I might never have known otherwise. Today? It's
#ballet
.
@KimRiveraVO
Thank you! Nicolas Colacitti with New Concept Comics is the magician behind our art style.
We look forward to hearing your auditions on future casting calls!
(3) Do you have animation demos? Do they capture someone truly acting (not just reading copy in voices) Is there enough variety? Do they have your natural voice? (I like casting people close to their normal range so as not to cause undue strain to their voice).
(5) Are you in it for a career? We have awesome plans for the Greasepunk Paradise animated series, but we're an indie project. We actually prefer to not be your biggest gig (or your only gig).
@RicepirateMick
My first VA recording session turned into an entire script rewrite. Entire major character was completely changed. The key is producing as you go, making the rewrite less of a big deal. Hard to get married to a script that hasn't been written yet.
@MaryHellScream
Recovery takes years. For immediate assistance you’ll want to give your money to someone who has boots on the ground and knows what is needed.
Do you like daring heists? The story follows an unlikely crew of young Greasepunks performing elaborate missions for a mysterious man (and his librarian robot).
(4) Does your social media feed and/or web presence echo professionalism, politeness, and responsibility of maintaining discretion. I share uncensored notes and scripts with VA so they can deliver the best performance possible. I like kind-hearted people who practice respect.
We've shared a lot of art and other vague details lately, but what is Greasepunk Paradise actually about? That's difficult for me to answer, but here are a few questions you can ask yourself that may help determine if it might be for you.
As a non-union project, we let
#VoiceActors
drive the conversation about what is fair for what we're asking them to do. They simply do not have union representation doing that for them.
(2) Do you have an online presence beyond social media? (i.e., do you have a website) Professional websites demonstrate your commitment to the VA career path.
