Demand prediction, real-time pricing, routing, etc. done right overall are valuable and non-trivial to do. That's a lot of Uber's forte afaik. Onboarding supply indeed ceases to be the same kind of challenge once you switch to AV fleets from individual human drivers. Liquidity (serving demand well) is the hard nut beyond onboarding supply side. e.g. people skipping waymo when too long a wait time or too pricey. AV deep tech and logistics are both formidable beasts.

Not that counterintuitive but a sport "for lazy people" that you regularly enjoy playing is infinitely better than a perfect elite sport that you hardly play. The low barrier to entry is incredibly intentional. Applicable more broadly than sports btw
Pickleball is most amazingly bullshit sport I have come across. A shuttlecock travels upwards of 400 kmph, A Tennis ball at 200+. A pickleball travels at 100kmph. Your reflexes will dumb down. It’s sport for the lazy people. For no reason the racket costs like 5000 bucks. Ultimate money grab.

Some thoughts on this: Uber is a transport & logistics juggernaut, not a car company. And solving autonomous driving is a completely separate hard problem from say efficiently matching supply and demand at scale. One angle that might play out here is a win-win partnership for Waymo and/or Tesla to unlock autonomous ride-shares at scale using Uber's global brand, distribution, and unparalleled real-time hyperlocal marketplaces. Remains to be seen ofc

Daniel Penny, financier. Nominative determinism wins in the end. (Congrats btw!)
🚨BREAKING: Daniel Penny, the NYC Subway Hero, is hired by Andreessen Horrowitz, Marc Andreessen's VC firm. "He will learn the business and learn to support our portfolio companies," says GP David Ulevitch - FP Heck yeah, an American hero getting a chance to thrive. BASED! 🔥🇺🇸

Uber, mid-2010s: *starts rolling out dirt-cheap rides across San Francisco* Lyft investors: "this is a ccp state psyop + economic warfare to make american ridesharing unprofitable they are faking the cost was low to justify setting price low and hoping everyone switches to it damage ridesharing competitiveness in the us dont take the bait"
