A new video from @Kurz_Gesagt lays out how a nuclear war could start. World leaders need to recognize security cannot be based on weapons of mass destruction, and work together to reach global zero. We cannot count on luck forever.

78 years ago today the US first use of the atomic bomb brought unparalleled devastation to the people of #Hiroshima. We must act to make sure no one ever experiences such catastrophe again. The only way to do that is to eliminate every last nuclear weapon.

#Oppenheimer helped usher in a perilous age of nuclear violence. We can resign ourselves to the growing risks of nuclear use while frontline communities bear the burden of their development, maintenance and use. Or we can work collectively to build a safer future beyond the bomb.

Radioactive fallout from the Trinity test reached 46 states, Canada, and Mexico. A new study from @seb6philippe et al shows how scientists underestimated the effects of the first atom bomb test. It could help expand compensation for impacted communities.
