The Nyanza International Investment Conference in Kisumu is creating opportunities for economic growth and development in the region. Homa Bay County is showcasing its investment potential, especially in the Riwa SEZ, emphasizing opportunities in agriculture, blue economy, tourism, and renewable energy. Following the success of last year’s #HoBIIC2, Victory Farms, Tunasco, Yazmark International, Rift Valley Products, Kenya Shipyard Limited, and Made In Thurwa are already setting up in Homa Bay, highlighting the importance of events like these.

I am pleased to note that the Homa Bay Water and Sewerage Company, HOMAWASCO, is making proactive steps in improving water infrastructure. With the recent acquisition of 6km of pipes, HOMAWASCO is enhancing connectivity and repairing damaged connections in Homa Bay Town, positively impacting over 500 connections in Shauri Yako, Sofia, Makongeni, and Pedo areas.

Providing quality, affordable, and accessible healthcare is our primary focus in service delivery. We acknowledge the challenges facing the healthcare sector and are dedicated to not only addressing these issues but also enhancing our healthcare systems, infrastructure, and human resources. Our approach emphasizes innovation and adaptability. Today, we held our inaugural County Health Roundtable, which brought together key stakeholders including the county executive, health management teams, facility administrators, Ministry of Health officials, and our development partners in the healthcare field.

I join national and world leaders, as well as the general public, in mourning the passing of His Highness Prince Karim Al-Hussaini, the Aga Khan IV. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family and the Ismaili Muslim community worldwide. The Aga Khan’s contributions to education, healthcare, and economic empowerment were extraordinary, reflecting his steadfast belief in the power of knowledge, compassion, and entrepreneurship. His philanthropy transformed landscapes, bridged cultures, and fostered development in some of the world's most vulnerable regions. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Today, we joined the inaugural Steering Committee meeting for the Devolution Conference 2025 where the theme: "For the People, For Prosperity: Devolution as a Catalyst for Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice" was unveiled. Homa Bay County will proudly host this important conference from August 12th to 15th, 2025. The Steering Committee is co-chaired by the Vice Chairperson of the @KenyaGovernors H.E. Dr Mutahi Kahiga, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Devolution Ms. @Terry_Mbaika, Vice Chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations Hon. Catherine Mumma and the Secretary General of the County Assemblies Forum (CAF) Hon. Chege Mwaura. We warmly welcome you to the County of Endless Potential.

We held a productive meeting with Hon. Davis Chirchir, EGH, the Cabinet Secretary for @TransportKE. Our discussions centred on actively advocating for the opening, construction, and upgrading of the county's road network to boost our local economy. Key projects include expediting the completion of the Sori-Magunga-Sindo-Mbita Road and constructing the Gor Mahia Ring Road in Ndhiwa. Developing the Adiedo-Namba Karabok road, Ojijo Oteko road, Homa Bay town roads, Kadongo- Gendia, and Oboke- Rangwe - Ndiru roads. These initiatives are vital for improving the movement of people and goods in and out of Homa Bay County. The leadership of Homa Bay County, including @senatorkajwang, Senator Beatrice Ogola, Hon. Ong'ondo Were (Kasipul), Hon. Dr. Eve Obara (Kabondo Kasipul), Hon. Adipo Okuome (Karachuonyo), Hon. Dr. Lilian Gogo (Rangwe), Hon. Martin Peters Owino (Ndhiwa), Hon. Opondo @gpdkaluma (Homa Bay) and Woman Rep Hon. Dr. Joyce Osogo Bensuda formed the county delegation.

I am saddened by the passing of Professor Bethwell Allan Ogot, an outstanding academician and historian of great distinction. His research significantly shaped historical research in Kenya and beyond. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, the academic community, and the nation. Prof. Ogot's advocacy for gender equity and inclusivity will be greatly missed. May his family find peace during this time of loss.
