Hot take on integrating #AI into #library #services: 📚before that! prove to us an #AI tool or product was not trained on stolen data; 📭just as we wouldn't license stolen content, why are we using up our valuable time with stolen content? #Copyright laws need to clarify for us©️

Time to buy #Canadian. Websites such as "Made in Canada", a directory, will help. If you know of others, let me know via IM or respond below. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

Librarians have been sending warning signs about intellectual property theft vis a vis GenAI tools for years. Doesn't surprise us @deepseek_ai might based on the same principles we see with #OpenAI. #ethicalAI #copyright #Copyrights_infringement #medlibs

I followed up with @deepseek about #hallucinating reference #3. Here's it's response (which recommends a paper that is not on point).

#Librarians, especially #MedLibs, use hierarchies in their practices & in #EBM (evidence-based medicine). There might be a similar hierarchy for #reading but perhaps it's more like a #matrix or #Venn diagram of overlapping influences than skill levels. (I'm not sure tbh.) 📚📔

Is there a Hierarchy to Reading? After talking with 1,000+ readers, I've noticed that just as there's a hierarchy of needs, there's a hierarchy of reading. Here are the 5 levels: Level 1 is Reading for Education: Reading is primarily done out of obligation for school rather than personal choice or interest. Level 2 is Reading for Entertainment: Reading books that give you a feeling of escape or entertainment. Level 3 is Reading for Expertise: Reading books written by experts who can teach you about a topic or help you solve a problem. Level 4 is Reading for Enrichment: Reading books that develop your critical thinking and emotional intelligence through complex characters, themes, and ideas. Level 5 is Reading for Enlightenment: Reading books that help you explore and understand life's most fundamental questions. (Note: This doesn't mean one level of reading is better than another, but rather people read different books depending on where they're at in life.) What do you about this idea? Is there anything you'd change?

Not to mention harms to the #environment, #intellectual #property, #equity, #labour & critical thinking. Where are #ChatGPT and @OpenAI going with these losses? #medlibs

Also: why are they (the books, that is) ALL the same size. I guess it makes your bookshelf look streamlined.
