Bit of news - I'm researching for my first book which will focus on
@bfcdublin
in European competition.
I'd love to hear from any players, fans, coaching staff etc. from the past who'd like to share their stories.

Éamonn O'Doherty's Crann an Óir sculpture has been fully refurbished (3 blacksmiths in Armagh spent 1,200 hours working on it) and re-unveiled on Dame Street in front of the old Central Bank today.
100 years ago today Seán Treacy was killed in a gun battle on Talbot Street with British intelligence officers outside the Republican Outfitters.
It's why every time they reach an All Ireland final his fellow Tipperary people visit the street - as they did last year.
A familiar sight for many on the walk to Croke Park is the Fairview Jewish cemetery.
Looking better after some upgrade works by the Council.
Sign above the door reads built in the year 5618 (in the Jewish calendar) which would be 1857 but it's been in use since early C18th
For the various far right British accounts revelling in "watch towers" being positioned on O'Connell Street.
These are light projectors for the Winter Lights displays which will be lovely and will light up the GPO from December 1st. Come in and see them.
Reminder that 6' 5" Usain Bolt - the literal fastest man who has ever lived - failed to make the grade in the Australian A League & got dragged over his technical ability by no less a luminary than Andy Keogh.
It’s amazing how some top English soccer club hasn’t given David Clifford a trial considering he has more talent in his small toe than some of these 50m players. If they can make soccer players out of Niall Quinn and Kevin Moran, well then Clifford can’t be an impossibility.
The man who held Collins as he died was former
@bfcdublin
player & future club President Emmet Dalton.
Collins' autopsy was later performed by former Bohs outside-left Oliver St. John Gogarty.
This day 98 years ago - 22 August 1922 - Michael Collins was shot dead in an ambush at Béal na mBláth by members of the IRA opposed to the Anglo-Irish Treaty.
Collins, with Arthur Griffith, had helped negotiate the treaty which led to the establishment of the Irish Free State.
Tour number two from Dalymount to Manor Street done and dusted.
Blown away by the turnout. Thanks to everyone who came along today and hope you enjoyed it.
Liam Whelan (right) scores for Manchester United against Shamrock Rovers in a European Cup match in Dalymount Park, 25th Sep 1957.
It was Liam's last game in Dublin, played just a few hundred yards from where he grew up.
He died in the Munich air disaster on this date, 1958.
A reminder that Dalymount played host to Israel in the 80s.....in a friendly match. Can't find any 'protests' by Bohs fans then? Nor is there a Palestine flag in sight?
Just speaking facts
Wonderful club when it suits an agenda...
For fuck sake. After all he's said this week?
Daniel O'Connell (for all his faults) fought for equal rights for Catholics, vocally opposed anti semitism who was a personal friend of Frederick Douglass & a prominent anti slavery advocate? What would he say do you think Conor???
Compare the sterile, black-tie event feel, presentation ceremony taking place right now with what happened last time Argentina won.
I know which I'd prefer to see.
Considering the squad & resources made available to the management team, would getting Bohemian FC relegated for the first time in our 134 year existence count as the greatest act of football mismanagement in recent LOI history?
Given that there will likely be a few hundred of us heading to Tolka tonight for the "pleasure" of a Leinster Senior Cup game, a very stort 🧵about Bohs first superfan - the proto Barry.
Someone in his day as well known & well associated with club as Barry is today...
131 years ago a group of young men met in the room on the left in the Gate Lodge of the Phoenix Park & formed the Bohemian Football Club.
They kept the goalposts at the house & walked them down to the 9 acres (Polo Grounds) for their matches.
Typical Bohemian FC erasure. 5 years before Will Grigg & Wigan the Bohs were singing about the joys of drug use & being broke to the tune of Freed from Desire
Jonathan Hill confirms there has been an approach to play Palestine in a game but it's a non-runner for senior team to play them because of windows.
But says talks about some kind of LOI team facing them are ongoing. "LOI department taking look at logistics"
Going to do a little Bohs Cup final related thread over the next few days.
Below are Bohs first ever FAI Cup winning team, from the 1927-28 season in which they did a clean sweep of League, Cup, Shield and Leinster Senior Cup!
🚨 MATT DOHERTY HAS DONE IT FOR WOLVES!
🐺 From 2-0 down, Wolves come back to win 3-2 thanks to goals from Doherty, Adama Traore and Raul Jimenez!
🔵 City's path to the title only gets closer and closer to the impossible now
There's a plaque at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground to commemorate the filming of the game between Ireland & Wales in 1906.
It's the oldest surviving film footage of an International game & Bohs' Harold Sloan scored a hat trick in a match that ended 4-4.
At the unveiling of a plaque to
@IBMT_SCW
veteran Bob Doyle at
@CobblestoneDub
today. A man who fought fascism on the streets of Dublin & the fields of Spain.
If it only ends up as a trip to Coleraine or Rhyl I'll still be happy. There's plenty of us remember this club being on a knife edge only a few short years ago. Fantastic achievement by Keith & the lads.
A sketch of Dalymount Park by Dublin historian Pat Liddy from an Irish Times article of his in 1984. The view is from the shed end & shows the old main grandstand that was replaced by the present Jodi stand.
His father was apparently a life-long
@bfcdublin
member.
As usual I try to insert Bohemian FC into Irish history so here are the Bohs - Michael Collins death connections from 100 years ago.
1. Sam Robinson was a Lieut. in the Free State Army, formerly a member of Collins' squad, he had been with Collins in the Imperial hotel.
Tomorrow's match programme is a very special edition. As it is 85 years since the first regular season Bohs match programme we'll be doing a Double edition featuring a full reproduction of the 1938 programme as well as the standard edition.
All for the same price of €5
A huge thank you to everyone who came on the Bohemian Way walk today for
@Phizzfest
It was wonderful to hear so many stories of family & connections with both Bohs and Phibsborough. 🔴⚫️
There is a little bit of this sort of comment on here after the departure of Keith Long.
Including from a few people who should know better. So please indulge a very short thread on the many misconceptions that abound about Bohs extracurricular activities...
@pogmogoal
@stevehendo07
Ah so what is the reason for winning nothing for the last 8 years and being 'part time'. If the club concentrated their efforts in funding for top players instead of paying a poet and climate officer, you may have a point.. Sure nothing a hipster kit release won't fix anyways.
My latest article featuring what I believe may be some new research into the famous "Battle of Ringsend" match between Bohemians and Shelbourne at the beginning of the 1913 Lock-out.
Only spoke with Mono on Friday after the game against Dundalk. A real gent and a true Bohemian taken far too soon.
One of those good, genuine people who did so much for others that many people often didn't realise. A very sad day. RIP.
Was asked by a German friend to explain the fan displays at the Bohs v Rovers game recently & you do have to admire the creativity of fan groups who are riffing on a lyric from 150 year old rebel song or a translation of a Latin civic motto.
Great photo of the final phase of works on the construction of the main stand at Dalymount in 1931. Designed by famed stadium architect Archibald Leitch & constucted by J.P. Price, contractor.
On this day in 1901
@CelticFC
played their 1st ever match in Dublin against
@bfcdublin
in the recently opened Dalymount Park.
Celtic won 2-0 in front of a crowd of 4,000 thanks to goals by McNeill & Miller.
Also love the list & type of businesses where tickets could be bought!
Report from Bohemians first ever fixture, 1st November 1890 in front of a large & hostile away support despite the match being played on Bohs home turf.
A 1-1 draw with the ref awarding Bohs a win after pitch invasions & the refusal of opponents Britannia to play the added time.
Some great photos sent onto me by the
@DynamoDresden
club historian from the matches between them &
@bfcdublin
in the last 16 of the European Cup in 1978.
Will hopefully feature them in the Bohs in Europe book I'm writing. Delighted they still have the pennant.
It's 1927 & you're building a new Catholic Church in Marino, Dublin so what do you need?
A veteran players fundraising match between "Old"
@bfcdublin
& "Old"
@shelsfc
of course.
8,000 people paid to see the game in Dalymount, which finished 1-1.
The only certainty in the the career of a football manager is that this day happens for everyone.
So important to remember how much Keith did for the club & how far he brought us & raised expectations. Am sure he'll always be welcomed & respected around Dalymount.
It is with regret that Bohemian FC has today parted company with men's first team manager Keith Long:
❤️🖤 Keith showed a loyalty to our club that is rare in football, and he can call himself a true Bohemian.
Working from home means you get to wear what you want so an excuse to stick on some of my lesser worn football jerseys.
Today's effort Rot-Weiss Essen of Germany's Regionalliga West.
I only know one Bohs fan who predicted a win tonight and it certainly wasn't me!
What a performance though. Clarke was immense but everyone did a shift tonight.
Shamrock Rovers - drawn 8 & lost 4 out of 25 games in the LOI this season.
Peter Collins: Stuey is Rovers problem a lack of competition in the League of Ireland?
Spent years looking for a photo of the Bohemians team on their triumphant tour of Belgium in 1929.
Finally have one courtesy of
@BohsABaldiemann
My original article on the tournament win below.
By an odd twist of fate the man who held Collins as he lay dying (Emmet Dalton) & the man who performed his autopsy (Oliver St. John Gogarty) were both ex
@bfcdublin
players.
