This is my “Manual de Neurología”, a tool that I created 1 year ago to teach how to conduct a neurological exam appropriately at a Semiology course we created at la Ayudantía de Fisiopatología y Semiologia from UNMSM, Perú. It is in Spanish and it is free access.
My Physical Examination in Neurology manual has been officially translated to English with the help of our team members from our SIGN Chapter

, this time I’m introducing a wonderful classmate and fellow investigator: Claudia Cruzalegui-Bazan. She’s currently the president of San Fernando’s Scientific Society and she has published tons of articles in a lot of great magazines.
So I was recently in Pucallpa (a town in Peru’s jungle), being a part of an investigation of a native tribe, the Shipibos. It was a wonderful experience! Rural investigation is so rewarding 🥰

We just sent 6 abstracts to the AAN’s Summer Conference. I don’t know if even any abstract will be accepted, but I’m happy to have learned a lot this past week 💪🏾🧠

Today I had a learning that I want to share with y’all: we should always go to the Traumatology consultation with a reflex hammer. You never know when you will face a case that’s difficult to determine if its due to a purely MSK problem or if it has neurologic involvement
But medicine, and specially Neurology, ended up stealing my heart, and I'm happy that I was able to find something that really makes me passionate, I think not many people find that, so I feel very thankful to the universe
I wanted to tell a little bit about my journey learning english here on twitter, since a lot of people have asked me privately, and to this day I haven’t received any education on it, and I mostly learned it through art.
Is there anyone here on
#MedTwitter
that will be at the

early? I will be in Denver at 7 pm this april 11, let's hang out between neuro enthusiasts 🧠🧠
This manual has been created by me, I am a 5th year peruvian med student from
@UNMSM_
. It is meant to be open access because I strongly believe in learning resources being accessible for everyone regardless of their socioeconomic status
One thing about my study method: I only do flashcards. no note-taking, no schemas, just my flashcards. if i need to understand a topic more profoundly, i make flashcards about the mental schema I want to create
Aside from that, I am doing a fundraiser at this moment to be able to finance some academic opportunities I got because of my work. I am an orphan and I am in charge of paying for everything and I am a full-time student. If you can share my fundraiser I will be very thankful 🙏🏽:

That’s how I’m learning medicine and that’s the way I want everyone to learn it too 🙌🏽 Open Access resources have the power of changing Medical Education, I truly believe that!
I was talking to a friend recently about how I wanted to leave medicine to study philosophy and he really couldn't see the reasoning behind, but to me makes all the sense in the world: what I am really passionate about in life is learning complex systems

Keep in mind this schemas only contain the minimal and indispensable knowledge about each topic, since the chapter is inadequately short due to the syllabus, which is kinda sad. Most of the students end up with higher
#neurophobia
than before, but we’re trying to fix it! 🧠✨
I will end this thread by saying that It’s not that common for medical students from Public Universities in the global south to have the opportunity to attend international conferences. Let alone orphan students. (7/8)
@OOutani
Thank you so much Oumaima for your words and for sharing my campaign, I am so thankful to
@CPSolvers
for allowing me to get to know such talented and kind-hearted medstudents like you! :)))
I recently found out that 6 of them were gay (because they told me). I have being publicly gay since I was 17 (now I’m 24), everybody in my family knows it and I’ve had public appearances with partners at the time, just like I would with a girl.
I remember checking for the lyrics of every song I listened, and sometimes I printed them so I could memorize all the words. The first song I learned was ‘This love’ by Maroon 5, and the most iconic, if I say so myself, its ‘Love the way you lie’ by Eminem. 🤣
Sometimes I wonder whether in the USA cannabis consumption in med students is something common or not, because it is legal there and not here in Peru, but here in Peru lot’s of med-students get high
So I have this club of Neuroscience in my university called Neuroscience Interest Club (@/nic_unmsm on ig) and I was thinking about doing a presentation about the rule of 4 and some mnemonics to master the brainstem but I fear that I won't have enough time to study hehe
I feel very privileged to have been given this opportunity, and now more than ever I feel committed to help other students like me in their journey towards their academic goals. Money shouldn’t be a burden for talent to grow. We can fix it, one step at a time 🙌🏽. (8/8)
Ictal asystole is a rare condition associated primarily with temporal lobe epilepsy that can cause syncope, falls, and head trauma. Read about a severe case in this Pearls & Oy-sters article:

one of the most poetic things I've learned recently is the role of the cerebellum in emotion processing, it goes to show how deeply rooted our psyche is to the physical world, so much so that we regulate emotions in a similar way as we regulate movement, that is just beautiful
and a complex system can mean Hegel's dialectics or the pathophysiology of diabetes mellitus, I really don't find many differences between the learning process itself, and both things are really exciting. A part of me will always miss those days of learning philosophy
If everything goes alright, I will be able to present my team’s research projects at the

I think Medicine is still lacking more voices that represent the struggles of the working class, not just from the patient perspective but also from the perspective of the medical students and doctors that lack the resources to access spaces of power in our field.
