And actually fuck it, it has come home. Football has come home. We are all proud again. Of our young, fearless footballers. And being English. Well done for an incredible campaign

Thanks for all the messages on tonight’s
#Casualty
. I’m sure others can say it better but I know the intention was to thank our NHS frontline workers & portray, authentically, their many struggles during lockdown 1. Hopefully we managed it. And no I’m not a professional dancer!
Imagine the equivalent happening in athletics, say. Telling the lead runner to slow down because someone had fallen over. The guy way behind gets to stretch out, pop on some new trainers and then it becomes a sprint finish. Absolute joke!

Saturday 2nd Jan @ 19:35 BBC1 is our big
#Casualty
return. We all felt it is a story that needs telling: a well-researched & powerful account of an A&E department during lockdown. Sadly it seems more prescient now, with everything going on as it is. I really hope you enjoy it.
Thanks for watching
#Casualty
tonight. The real reason Ethan was so stressed that Connie might die is because he paid for the car parking on the Embankment & she owed him £10,000.
All jokes aside we actually filmed 72 different endings for tonight’s
#Casualty
season opener, including a musical one, so none of us know what’s going to happen.
#prayforDervla
Well done Holby family. That was tense as anything and beautifully done. Although would have been good to let us know we had a shooter in the building. Bit inconsiderate 😜
#HolbyCity
Happy Birthday to me. Went for a run to feel less old and got shat on by a seagull. Then had lunch at Wagamamas on my own and used chopsticks like a big boy. The end.
Lovely reading all your comments after last night’s
#Casualty
. Possibly my favourite was someone requesting we don’t use music in the background “because you don’t get music in hospitals.” Very good point, I’ll make sure everyone is aware 😂
Thinking of our wonderful friends at our sister show
#HolbyCity
today. Filming all year round on a long-running drama attracts a particular type of person. Dedicated, talented, excellent at problem-solving & an upbeat, self-deprecating humour. Heartbreaking for everyone involved.
Congratulations
#CallTheMidwife
on your 10 year anniversary. Can’t believe it was 10 years ago I pulled up to Nonnatus House in my Austin 20! I remember reading the script & thinking I so hope the audiences enjoy this as much as I do. And boy did they!
It's happening!! Check out the

Went to buy theatre tickets today but didn’t as the back row of the second circle was £40. Best stall seats £110. Absolute joke. Not even a big glossy musical. Make theatre more accessible!
To all my friends at
@BBCHolbyCity
, enjoy your last day. I can only imagine the emotions you’ll be feeling. You’re all such amazing, talented people. My time there has always been met with a wonderful sense of kindness & camaraderie. See you on the other side!

Cannot imagine that kind of pressure. Cruel cruel cruel. When the inevitable stories of online racism start, those trolls do not represent my England. But this young, diverse, brilliant football team does. Thank you
#GarethSouthgate
, thank you

. Wonderful effort.
I’m pleased to announce that I am indeed going to be watching this year’s

Years ago I did a play at the Liverpool Playhouse & had a lovely dresser who had been a dancer called Tracy. She told me about her teenage daughter who was aiming to be a professional athlete. Well that girl was

Hi, for anyone interested, I am making an appearance in this week’s
#HolbyCity
. It’s on WEDNESDAY 8pm which means you’d have to miss the
#ENGCRO
#WorldCup
semi-final. So if you watch Holby live this week, you’re basically an idiot. But a dedicated one! 😘 Xx
I just got the grand sum of £2.14 in royalties for an episode of Holby City. I’d like to thank the good people of Sweden for their contribution to my next cup of coffee.

I’m not saying it happens all the time (obviously!) but I’ve seen people take photos of me without asking three times today and I’m with my kids. It’s really rude & invasive. I’ll always happily do a photo if anyone asks. So please do!
It’s important to be able to take criticism but how do you react to someone who saunters up to you & says, “Hey, I can’t stand Casualty... but can I have a photo?” If you’re quintessentially British like me, you agree to said photo but try & show distaste in your smile choice 😂
I’m more invested in
#TheTraitors
than my entire family Christmas shopping. It’s the most twisty, original & addictive TV show since the original Big Brother. I’ve gorged all the episodes in 3 days. Best thing I’ve seen in yonks & I won’t change my mind. I’m 100% not a traitor!
Back from a gorgeous weekend camping & picking up so many lovely messages on the last
#Casualty
episode/s. Really appreciate it. Was certainly a challenging few months, made easier by having these guys around.
If any
#Casualty
fans happen to see me out running this morning, yes I am aware I forgot to remove Ethan’s “BE MORE CAL” tattoo from the back of my calf. I’m not a method actor. 😂
Thanks for all your lovely comments on the Doctor Who got engaged episode! It was a beautifully designed set wasn’t it... that Fenisha effortlessly threw together in about ten minutes after a long shift eh!
#Casualty
Yes I can confirm Tess insisted on stealing my wife’s seat for two minutes so she could sit on my knee! Fantastic night at
#StrictlyComeDancing
. Hope you all voted for Charles & Karen! Tune in tonight for some epic boyband nostalgia with the
#BackstreetBoys
!
After that wonderfully rousing
#ClapForTheNHS
might I suggest something similar where all parents stand on their doorsteps for school teachers & instead of clapping just shout “How?” and “Help!” for about ten minutes before going in to cry & drink more wine?
Also bless you all (including some press) who thought I genuinely didn’t know which of the characters (including me!) was going to die in the episode! I’ve been filming for the past 5 months! 😂😂

Thank you so much for engaging in the last few
#Casualty
eps. I wish I could respond to all of your lovely comments but I’ve read them. Lots about the ending. Anyone spot Ethan holding Fenisha’s necklace? & do you know how excruciating it is filming a dance scene with no music?!
We’re going on a sight test. We’re going to risk coronavirus. We’re not scared. Uh oh. It’s Barnard Castle. We can’t go away from it, we can’t go around it. We’ll have to have a picnic by it. Bully shitty bully shitty.
It’s been brought to my attention that I’ve been on screen for 8 years as Ethan. Thanks for all your support over that time. Top photo is a behind-the-scenes shot from my first episode filmed in September 2013. There’s been a few lines since…in every sense of the word!
#Casualty
Actors have to take other non-acting work to survive our industry. This has been greatly exasperated by the pandemic, not least because many have fallen through the cracks of the government SEISS. Please don’t try and shame people for taking other work to pay their mortgage etc.
I haven’t seen the consultant dancing from tonight’s
#Casualty
yet. But look, I was tired ok? Had just filmed the London ep. Something snapped. And yes, I’m self-taught. 😜
Off to the
#RTSAwards
tonight with
#Casualty
but thinking of our colleagues at
#HolbyCity
. It really highlights the fragility of work in our industry that it’s finishing. To all the cast & crew, good luck for the future & congrats on 23 years of a beloved show.

all. Hope you & yours are safe and happy. Don’t forget to call those people who would really appreciate it. And eat some good food if you can. Xx
Remains of a snowdrift in the
#Casualty
Peace Garden this morning where we are trying to recreate summer in June! I suggested an accident involving an ice cream van but was told it’s snow joke.
To answer a query we keep getting at
#Casualty
. Yes Fenisha was pregnant for like a year. Nothing to do with us having to stop filming for lockdown & thus a very undramatic birth off screen. Actually because she has the gestation period of an elephant. Hope that clears that up 😜
Thanks for all your messages. Honestly overwhelmed. In answer to few Qs:
1. Yes was same scarf for both 1st ED entrance 2014 & final scene 2023. Ethan doesn’t shop much.
2. Didn’t need notice period as already had annual leave in place for possible Jac Naylor Award (so there!).
Before, during & after. Some horrid cramp didn’t deter from an incredible day. The crowds at
#LondonMarathon
are something else. Thank you to everyone who supported us runners & for any last donations to help those living with

I’ve joined Instagram. Way out of my comfort zone. No idea what I’m doing but I think I’m called grainsford on it. I feel like my Mum. Come and say hi on the Internet. 😜
My son just took this photo of me. It’s my 41st birthday. No filter and seems honest. More wrinkles, puffy eyes & sun damage, but generally happy! Off to the cinema to watch “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” which is pretty much what I did for my 8th birthday!
10 years to the day since we shot this scene. Terrifying. Driving a clunky (but beautiful & expensive!) 1930s Austin 20 with a stick gear and 4 actors as passengers!
#CallTheMidwife
Fenisha continues her career as an expeditious last minute event manager. Its a
#Casualty
whirlwind wedding & a dramatic two-parter, starting this weekend. Don’t miss it!
Sucks you in doesn’t it? Every two years I say I’ll try not to care but here I am again, marching around my flat, sweating & screaming profanities when no one can hear me.

Thanks for your messages on last night’s
#Casualty
. It was a challenging shoot. I’d like to thank the midges who ate us for 4 days, the wet ground that I kept falling over on & the manikin that had to stand in as Fenisha and whose badly-fitted wig I cried all over.
