Pointers for young families looking to purchase a home:
1. Max loan -- 4x your annual income is a good rule of thumb
2. Min down payment -- Having 4%+ of the purchase price to put down helps
3. Credit -- Scores at 620+ normally work
Shoot me questions any time, y'all.
Utah, your governor is impressive. I'm down with his more charity, less vitriol approach to these social/cultural issues. This is the type of GOP politician I could get behind. This is the kind of Mormon that makes me proud to be Mormon.
At his monthly news conference,
@GovCox
said the way a current bill on banning transgender girls from high school sports stands, he wouldn't sign it if it was placed on his desk. He says the bill's complicated, and both sides of the issue are right.

The insane ranking of BYU at
#14
on Tuesday was frustrating. But it has been thoroughly gratifying to see virtually every reputable national CFB pundit excoriating the committee in the week since for hosing BYU.
Chris Collinsworth out here defending Zach Wilson. Saying it’s lazy to blame the QB when you got guys holding and receivers dropping balls that hit them in the hands. He’s the anti-Aikman.
Here's an excellent and completely unbiased side by side historical comparison of BYU football and UofU football. Utes are winning in a few categories...

I chatted with a source at BYU and got some additional info about the incident with the racist slurs at the BYU-Duke volleyball match last night.
The following is a basic rundown of events:
This is how internet mobs work. When they attack it's like a category 5 hurricane. When they find out their accusations were false, they apologize like a gentle spring shower.
Here's an example from
@stephenasmith
Game on ABC in the prime spot against a blue blood program. Plus it went to OT so every national writer started tweeting and telling everyone to change to the game. BYU WINS. Independence is working, y’all. Just win.

I hope Jacob Conover is ready for his first start against USU this week.
(Jaren Hall is too valuable to risk against those serial QB killers, amirite??)
Holy War results over the last 50 years
- In same conference: BYU 26 wins, UofU 13 wins
- Not in same conference: UofU 9 wins, BYU 1 win
Welcome back to the same conference as BYU, Utes! 🤙
Probably is my age, but I don’t let BYU losses get me down for long anymore. They mostly roll off my back now.
Big wins, on the other hand… I bask in those for many days. It’s awesome.
@BYUfootball
gave me tons of joy this season. I’m thankful for that.
There were only 17 seconds on the clock at the snap of that 64 yard pass to Simon. There were 5 seconds left when the offense spiked the ball. Oldroyd just BARELY snuck that FG in. So many times BYU almost lost.
Evidently Magic Happens still.

BYU is 10-2 and ranked
#12
in the AP poll with a shot at finishing 11-2 and in the top 10. On top of that BYU won the Holy War game again and got invited to the Big 12. It has been a spectacular two year run for BYU football.
Super useless yet still awesome trivia:
Jameis Winston and Tanner Mangum were Elite-11 co-MVP's together. Now both also will have been Taysom Hill's backup.
“"I vividly remember Jimmer Fredette's tournament run," Clark reflected. "Me and my cousins just would watch all of his games, watch his highlights on YouTube. So, I've always been a big Jimmer fan."”
“If Kalani Sitake gets offered the USC job and turns it down to stay at BYU then, I don’t care who wins the national championship, BYU has had the best 2021 of any football program” -
@slmandel
on The Audible podcast
😂
Several good guy Utah fans offered to chip in to the charity of my choice to make up for that Utah fan who reneged on his $500 bet with me about BYU cracking the AP top 25. I went with Steve Tate's HayesTough Foundation. Seems like a nice thing to turn this into something good.
Who else is ready to launch Tyler Allgeier’s Heisman campaign? Heaven knows he has delivered Heisman-worthy highlights already. And he’s currently the leading rusher in the country.

Per Blaine Fowler in AFR, at halftime Kalani told the BYU team:
“Ok guys, we’re gonna be leading at the end of the 3rd, and they’re gonna play Jump Around, and we’re gonna jump and take this stadium over”
And that’s what happened. Kalani is the right man for the job.
Thing is, BYU Hoops had no business being this good this season. Graduated five tremendous seniors last year. Cracking the top 25 and landing a six seed in the Dance far exceeded my expectations for the season.
Well done,
@BYUbasketball
! Let’s Dance again in ‘22!
Kalani: “Drop 8 won the game for us… That was Tuiaki’s idea… I think people need to respect him more”
There you go, Tuiaki haters. You’re super wrong and Kalani is ready to fight you. 😄👊👊
Mark Pope confirmed this evening that several key BYU players were battling the flu last week. Getting that Missouri State win in that condition with guys missing was quite a feat.
SUU coach has a nasty habit of trash talking the team he just lost to. When someone mentioned after the game that the 2nd half score was 14-13 BYU, he said it's because his guys like football more.
Uh, Kalani put all his bench players in to be merciful, champ.
So our son just got a new greenie to train on his mission. Kid is from Manti, UT and looks like he's 14. He reportedly burst into tears when he called home today on his P-day call.
May heaven and angels watch over these poor, terrified, incredibly brave missionary kids of ours.
Jayden Daniels, who was the QB for ASU that night BYU beat them in Provo, is on the verge of winning the Heisman.
Thanks again, Tyler Allgeier, for the Heavenly Punch.
If any BYU football fans are still feeling a bit down after the loss on Saturday, take comfort in knowing that you can still say “Scoreboard” to any obnoxious Utes who try to troll you from now into until fall of 2024. 😂👊
So BYU can pretty much only publicly apologize and plead with fans to be gracious hosts.
Hopefully we’ll hear more from BYU about reporting to security if fans hear any slurs. The goal is to root it out entirely. That requires everyone being vigilant and speaking up.
The Idaho State coach said after the game that he really appreciates and respects Kalani for being respectful to his program and not “stomping on their throats” in the last two matchups.
BYU is a great destination school for devout believers from any faith. The team fully supporting Khalifa in his Ramadan fasting demonstrates that fact.
Incredible stuff: BYU big Aly Khalifa posted a game-high +/- of 25 today…in his first EVER game that he’s played during the fasting hours of Ramadan.
No food, no water, no problem for Khalifa.
@TSTVSports
Utah fans acting like seven wins in a row is a MASSIVE deal. Look, it's a solid streak, I won't deny that. But I remember when BYU went 19-2 in a 21 game stretch in my lifetime.
Streaks happen, streaks end.
1. The Jazz sign Jimmer as part of their tanking strategy
2. Fans go bonkers cheering for Jimmer
3. The Jazz have a weirdly successful season and win a playoff series or two
4. 15-20 years later, “TankNote”, the greatest sports movie ever, hits theaters and recounts the tale
Take heart, BYU football fans. Teams can go from middling to excellent in just one offseason with the right system tweaks and the right players returning.
Exhibit A: BYU men’s hoops
Not gonna lash out at BYU players and coaches. They’re feeling bad enough as it is.
But I will say that BYU football is clearly broken right now. After two excellent seasons it happened fast.
Fixing it is up to Kalani and Tom. That’s why they get paid the big bucks.
Poor BYU. Independence will force them to play their 2019 bowl game in drab Hawaii. If only BYU were in a conference they might get to go somewhere glamorous like Albuquerque, Boise, or El Paso this year.
ESPN’s bowl projections after Week 4:
BYU: Hawaii Bowl vs. Houston/Tulane
Utah: Sun Bowl vs. Duke/Virginia Tech
Utah State: New Mexico Bowl vs. Marshall or Idaho Potato Bowl vs. Eastern Michigan
BYU roster losses and additions for next season:
-Lose: Spencer
-Maybe Lose: Jax, maybe some bench guys
-Keep: All the other main contributors this season
-Gain: C Chandler, D Baker, M Adams, I. Davis, maybe portal others
BYU Hoops should get better and deeper.
Mitt Romney: “I will not be voting for former President Trump. I must admit that I find sexual assault to be a line I will not cross in the people I select to be my president.”
The Cal loss sucked, but I can't be the only one who thinks it served as a wake-up call that led directly to this BYU win over Wisconsin. If we only were gonna get one of those wins, today is the one to get.
So, so rad.

I think it’s useful. This lovely video should be forwarded to every LDS high school recruit who is considering committing to Oregon.
Would be cool if kids like the Sewells spurned Oregon going forward.
Tyler Allgeier’s play was amazing. But how about Jaren being his wingman on the play and being right there to recover? No recovery would have negated the play entirely. That’s winning football.

My kids have relayed several stories of white Mormon kids they know who use the "N" word but then are offended by words like sh*t.
This is problematic.
I hope we Latter-day Saint parents can, well, you know, stomp that sh*t out from among our youth, pronto.
As a BYU fan with no dog in this fight this is basically the best outcome for me. Fred Warner got an INT, but Andy Reid and Danny Sorenson get the ring.
Noah Waterman won the tournament MVP award.
He’s playing great defense, grabbing lots of rebounds, and is shooting 46% from three on the season.
BYUs most improved player.
CBS Sports Network just did a little commemorative bit during the SDSU vs USU game on the most important college football game ever played in San Diego: The 1984 Holiday Bowl when BYU secured the national title.
I’ll bet Aztec and Aggie fans watching loved that.
Kind of amazing to me how many people think that a great way to fight bigotry and racism in the church is to spew all kinds of bigotry toward the church.
Zach Wilson is definitely not BYUs problem. I hope fans will not focus on him or the other unpaid athletes.
The paid professionals are the ones that need to deliver better results. Successful college football programs are always built on the foundation of excellent coaches.
I’m thinking Jaren Hall played maybe the best game of his career last night. The way he evaded defenders in the backfield and then off great passes was tremendous.
Seems like this BYU at Wazzu game is gonna get way more attention than it normally would thanks to the mess over there with the coaches. Sure would be a nice time for BYU to bring their A game all four quarters.
Micah Simon was a BYU team captain last season and took heat from fans for not having a great season. I'm stoked to see him breaking out this season. Huge night in Knoxville.
"I was told that Utah doesn't want to appear to be following their rival in BYU [to the Big12]."
I, for one, applaud the UofU for taking a firm stance on this. They should stick to their guns.
ESPN's
@Ianfitzespn
this afternoon on SiriusXM College Sports radio: "I had one very high-ranking Big 12 official tell me when I brought up Utah as a two-time defending Pac-12 champs. They're OK in hoops, but they sell out (their football stadium) in a top 35 media market.
"When
About 7-8 years ago the Catholic dad of a kid in our ward decided to join the church while his son was serving a mission. Great guy who was at church every week to support his family long before he joined.
That dad just got sustained as a member of our bishopric. We’re stoked.
BYU puts walk-ons into the NFL.
Now BYU sponsors pay for the tuition of walk-ons.
BYU might be the best CFB program to walk on to in the country at this point.
About 20 teenage boys in our ward recently spent 4 hours on a school night setting up and furnishing an apartment for an incoming refugee family from Afghanistan.
Mormonism FTW.
