OMG, I just had the most incredible experience! I saw a male phainopepla about 200 feet away, in my neighbor's yard. I played a phainopepla call from my birding app, and all of a sudden I had at least eight of them, males and females, land near me! Won't do that again!

This is such a bittersweet day for me. Today, Rico and Lola are in the yard eating snacks and evidently working on their nest. This is also my last day here, as I am moving to Imperial County for a great job. I will miss them more than I can say.

I was birding at the Salton Sea this morning and I found the same burrowing owl family that I had photographed in early September. Unless this guy has two wives, they still have their kid living at home, which I think is just fantastic.

Just a coyote, a badger and me for several hours y'day in prairie dog town. And more today. Oh my, OH my, OH MY! This is a screenshot from my footage. Cooperative hunting, although more like advantageous hunting for the waiting coyote while the badger did all the work.

I had the most phenomenal wildlife sighting this morning. On my drive to work, in the distance, I spotted a raven perched on the fence and a strange brown raptor perched next to him. I was on cloud nine when I realized it was a short-eared owl, a life bird for me! Yay!

OMG, I went outside because I thought I heard a lazuli bunting, only to see Mr. Roadrunner had brought two other roadrunners to visit! They went out of sight very quickly, hunting for lizards on the roof and in the yard. I was just floored to see them all!
