Today starts a new journey for me. I no longer will be working a job in town and farming. Instead I now will be a full time farmer. Dreams come true when you put your heart and mind to it. 5 years with a job in town has paid off.
Foreign exchange student from Ukraine that lived with my parents and I when I was in high school sent me these photos. Him and his father farm in Ukraine. He says they try to go about their days farming without thinking about the war.

This is not climate change! This has to do with hardly any green space in Sioux Falls and all the concrete they have. Along with everyone getting 5+ inches of rain the same day and all comes down the river at once!
2 year was watching me load the planter and asked what’s that green stuff Daddy. I told her Frankenstein poop. She ran to tell her papa that daddy was putting Frankenstein poop on the corn seed. She giggled about it! Let’s see how this rolls with the replant corn!

It has been a couple beautiful days to get the spring strips made! This will be year 5 for corn on corn! Lot of moisture in the soil compared to last spring!
Doing an on farm trial! It’s crazy what you can learn and see happening in my own crop. It shows right here that

meltdown on the right. Not only can you see it in the roots but you can see it in plant height.

Fastest I've had corn come up. 5 days. I know the rows arent straight, that's what happens when you let pops relieve ya and doesn't understand the auto steer.
Neighbor asked what we plant for corn. I told him it's locally grown in South Dakota. He assumed Curry's, but I laughed cause that's just Pioneer in a Curry's bag! Here's to only planting the best!

New record set on the farm. 8 days of small grain harvest and put up 21,000 small squares. Normally it would take 3-4 weeks. I guess on perk of it being a drought and no rain showers.
Took a JD 4020 in last December to get an over haul. I took engine to get redone at a machine shop. They ordered crank shaft and cam shaft thru A and I, JD Deere got it put back together, pistons and rods hit, spun a gear. Find out the shaft was bent from and I. (1/?)
The race is on to 100 bpa soybeans! Did it last year with a later maturity bean. This year test 20 acres of normal maturity bean just plant it early to see if it plays out.
I feel accomplished… my dad complains he can’t find the guess rows in corn. Says I need to screw up every now and then planting. It doesn’t have to be perfect… guess I’ll be getting lots of exercise in and out of tractor to find the right row for him since he don’t have gps.
11am on the left and 7pm on the right! Corn was head high and 3 leaves from tassle. Kiss that sucker good bye now unfortunately! It’s going to be a rough time!
Just helped Carson King out on raising money for the kids! Who cares about his younger past. The media needs to focus on what he is doing today and how it's going to benefit in the future.
Wife’s 2nd day in the seat of a grain cart in her life. She loaded 15 trucks yesterday just fine. First one today she over shoots. She’s calls and says “I’m tired yet and I missed the semi, don’t yell at me”. Told her what she spilt was her paycheck.
Corn is starting to dent here in southeast South Dakota.
Planted: May 12 2019
Population: 34,000
18 around by 35 long
Should of planted thicker so I'd have more pull back.
Had a meeting with with banker yesterday. Asked if I needed a drink or anything. Said I could go for a DQ Blizzard. 10 mins later his secretary had arrived with a blizzard. I can't complain about that.

I know for me as a young guy trying to get into farming it has been tough to find farm ground to rent as most landlords rent it to the big guys.

Feed lot along 29 have 4 pens under water! 2 feet of water in a school that’s 6 years old! I know a lot of people were hit hard upstream and around me. I currently have 160 acres left with a crop out of 3,000 of other nature doesn’t ruin it with white combine.

I’ve used it on my corn on corn acres. Did a check strip with it first year. I saw less goosenecking where I did it, 10 bushel increase, and plant was healthier in general. I also did v10 and tassel application of fungicide

Worked for a farmer in college who had one farm that had wind turbines on it along with a hunch in neighboring fields. We could leave his home farm at 8pm where there was no turbines and go to this farm and combine all night long because the dew never set in. It was interesting.
I guess I’ll be a lot more considerate when booking an airbnb in a large city! Within walking distance of farm show and next to university, but was in a sketchy/geto location! Thank goodness a hotel had 1 room left!
'92 JD 4055 2WD w/ only 837 hours...belongs to Facebook follower David F. Sweet tractor! Reminded me of the '89 JD 4055 2WD w/ 215 actual hrs sold for $93K on Neb. farm sale Dec. '16. Here's video of that 4055 selling for $93K:
@MachineryPete
It's been working like a dream! We baled with it again this summer! Got the tac rolled over to 315 hours now! You'll have to come down and take it for a drive this coming summer!
JD had quoted us $30k for overhaul and some other work. This happened and they wanted another $30k from us. My dad and I told them that work is all warranty and they will have to stand behind it all. After the headaches of trying to get them to get it done. (2/?)

First I look at my break even and see if price is at break even. Then I determine who has better basis and if I can make some trucking it there. Currently a $.42 difference between elevator 1/2 mile from farm and a feed mill 30 miles away. Feed mill for the win!
