I don't think we do enough to take ideas and approaches from other countries. Mortgage regulation is a prime example that is bound by national borders and is absurd. Go ask a New Zealander about their adjustable mortgage rates - you cannot get a 30 year mortgage in NZ.
Denmark has a unique mortgage system that avoids lock-in: Each mortgage is backed by a bond, so you can pay it off by buying that bond. If rates rise (say from 3% to 6%), bond prices can drop ~30%, letting you potentially buy out a $1M loan for ~$700k!

Now do Seattle! Unfortunately, the reality of drastic under-investment in car-centric road infrastructure for decades means it's not a case of filling potholes, but whole roads need resurfacing. The city council is pushing irrational policy. Like $1M a block for bike lanes and pride flags painted on the road vs getting out city moving
