That’s not to denigrate the “lore” in any way, lots of it is very evocative. But it’s not an academic exercise in storytelling, it’s a commercial enterprise. That’s why early WH and 40K is full of jokes, because the target market was smart arsed students.

Actually I'm not. If this guy had read any of my posts he would know that all this stuff is scratchbuilt. I use basic cheap materials in a simple manner. The tiled roofs are made from old corduroy trousers and the ships are largely built from scrap cardboard.

There was no background at all. I think I saw the first Bob Naismith marine knocking around the studio quite a long time before the first rules appeared. I remember playtesting them using generic figures on the tabletop.

You're too kind. This illustration was perpetrated when the world was young and Space Orks were still a new thing. I don't know what happened to the artwork though. It probably got thrown out in GW's "skip of shame" incident.

Finally played the third game of my pirate trilogy on Saturday with 5 other members of Rochefort's Arsenal club. The last shot shows the the only surviving pirate gunner fleeing the stricken battery. Loads of fun all round!
