Learn to forgive others. Not because THEY deserve your forgiveness, but because YOU deserve your peace. I know how to use the Block Button π

It's not a question of gratitude. It's a question of not slapping a hand of friendship extended. Things could have turned out differently. Despite the prophets of doom that ran off to Aus, we managed to plot a path through this maze none of us have seen before. We can't quit now.
@ganymedeworld I am sure all white South Africans, as am I, are extremely grateful to black South Africans for not massacring us in 1994 and for not confiscating property. I am also grateful to the ANC for this. I am grateful for the good relationships I have with most black people I know.

We've been trying to understand AND be understood. It has not yielded much. Instead we've been slapped with some US punishment for a sin or a crime we may or may not commit based on some unfounded fears driven by an insidious lie from seriously bad actors. It's hard to reconcile.
@ganymedeworld We are all frustrated and it is important to listen to each other. To seek to understand.

@Omri_Cassiem Exactly... Not only is it a question of "we're even now", it's now an assertion "You're oppressing me"...π€¦

Look, let's not try rationalise the past few days. What I'm trying to impress upon you is how the rest of us, who happen to be black, received the message. It was clear &unambiguous. The chosen ppl were inspired by that. See it from the receivers' perspective - not the sender's.
@ganymedeworld Please also consider that the vitriol is not necessarily directed at all black people but rather the political elite. The system. We should not be in the situation we are now, having this discussion after 30 years . Our country should be a better place for all of us.

I'm not angry. I'm frustrated - based in part on lack of history acknowledgement & simply comparing my historically documented past against unfounded fears about their future. If their future was gonna be as bad as they say, do you think we would have given them a 30yr headstart?
@ganymedeworld The thing we all fail to do is to try and put ourselves in other people's shoes. So thank you for helping me to understand your anger but at the same time it will help to try and understand why Afrikaners might feel worried about their futures.

We just need to be rid of bad apples. Trump may have opened a door to that. Next is to be rid of bad political actors -don't know how. Despite everything, I still believe in the goodness of our country. Besides, most of us have nowhere else to run, we kinda have to make it work.
@ganymedeworld I cannot foresee this country growing any further than we are today! Zero- 1. National identity! 2. Pragmatic economic development plan! 3. Honesty, accountability & responsibility! Just groundhog day!

The vitriol of genocide, persecuting Afrikaners, land grabs, etc is directed at people like me, black people, based on our shared history. We know it to be false, as do you. Put yourself in my shoes if you can: How else can we view it or experience it, without being told how to?
@ganymedeworld It depends on how one views or experiences these things. It is subjective. I advised a young family member to join the police in Australia. He is a natural leader and always wanted to serve. We knew he wouldn't reach his full potential in SAPS promotion would be stunted.

Helen Zille is at least staying within the confines of our laws. Bills have been promulgated into law. Bills have been challenged - with the challengers legitimately winning. She is at least not going out spreading falsehoods & attracting unwelcome US orange turds into our mix.
The DA is finally joining AfriForum in fearmongering the people. Zille needs to be seen as doing something so the fundings can till come. Pitty because her party is also part of the same GNU.

True, ANC working with people not aligned with US interests has its own issues. That is not what Trump cited as reasons for his actions. He was very specific: Afrikaner persecution, genocide, land grabs, etc- things we know to be false. We have to narrow our discussion to those.
@ganymedeworld I agree with most of the things you say @ganymedeworld but I don't believe Afriforum is solely to blame for the blow up with Trump. The ANC is guilty of working against American interests for long time and it includes its alignment with Americas enemies and competitors..

I don't know man - we see things very differently because we have very different lived experiences. While the proposition may work for you, being given 30yrs to "move on" by same people responsible for my multi-generational misery is a disrespectful & complete non-starter for me.
@ganymedeworld Then to say "30 years is not enough" has no meaning if there is no understanding of what the plan is for the next 30 years. I can understand 30 years of something different... but certainly not 30 years of the same.

A classic case of a mystery wrapped in a conundrum wrapped in a steel hardened case of logic proof cognitive dissonance. Who knows anymore?π€·
Hold on! Trump is a friend of Afriforum. MK congratulated Trump as "progressive." One of their leaders celebrated when Trump threatened SA. Now action against Afriforum is directly related to Trump's policy on RSA. So how can they love Trump & reject his lies at the same time?
