Let me introduce Metal Slug 5,the last entry released on the Neo Geo. It’s fun and exciting for casual play, but if you look a bit deeper and compare it with the previous titles,it feels lacking in many ways. The trademark humor is gone, and most of it is basically recycled content.

—a rare case in gaming history. Setting aside the controversy, the game itself was extremely well-polished, and as the final entry of the Samurai Shodown series on the Neo Geo, it became a symbolic title that closed the system’s long history on a high note.

-where an elementary school student fatally stabbed a classmate. This led to a full recall of the game, with a modified version being supplied in which the violent scenes were toned down. As a result, the unmodified copies that escaped the recall became highly valuable—

Released in 1990, the Neo Geo went on to set a record as the longest-lived game console, lasting 15 years, with Samurai Shodown V Special in 2004 marking its final title. Coincidentally, at the time of its release, a tragic incident occurred in Japan-

-in King of Fighters, losing that classic Fatal Fury feel. Still, it was created when SNK was at its peak right before bankruptcy, so regardless of balance, I think the game itself was excellent. The characters were well-made, the combat was fast and satisfying.

This is Mark of the Wolves, the original title of SNK’s latest game this year, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. To call it the true successor of Fatal Fury is a bit difficult, since it no longer had the series’ trademark line system, and the characters were scaled down more like -

I really love racing games too, and in the ’90s I especially liked Sega’s racing games. When I was a kid, I went to an amusement park and saw OutRun, and I fell in love with it at first sight. Later I found out that the car was a Ferrari, and that red sports car looked so cool.

Which iPhone do you like? I like 3GS. Because Korea started selling iPhones beginning with the iPhone 3GS.

-and it wasn’t very popular. In particular, the stick-like hit sound carried over from SVC was downright awful. I don’t think many of my friends have actually played it.

The last title without the Neo Geo logo was KOF 2003. It introduced real-time tag battles, similar to Capcom’s VS series. You could also select a leader, which added a more strategic element to the gameplay. However, compared to the previous entries, its overall polish was lacking-

After KOF ’98, the series introduced the Striker system, but in 2002 it went back to the past and returned as a Dream Match title. Personally, it’s a game I really like.

I buy games every day, but for my birthday I treated myself to something special: the 3DS and DS Zelda editions, and the Panasonic Q GameCube.

R-TYPE, which was a popular arcade game, was released on the PC Engine. The port was pretty well done and gained good popularity. However, due to the limited HuCard capacity at the time, the game had to be split into two separate releases—stages 1–4 and stages 5–8. 😆

Fatal Fury Special on the PC Engine CD – stunning visuals, CD-quality sound, and one of the best Neo Geo fighters perfectly brought home. A true 90s gem!

Oh, that’s right—today marks the 40th anniversary of Super Mario’s release! Which Mario game did you all play first? For me, it was Super Mario on the Famicom!

A game I never expected to see remade is Dragon Quest VII. In Korea, it wasn’t very well known since it was overshadowed by Final Fantasy VII, VIII, and IX, but in Japan, Dragon Quest VII was actually the top-selling title on the entire PlayStation 1, which shows just how huge-

What caught my attention in this Nintendo Direct was the revival model of the Virtual Boy. You can play it by inserting Switch 1 and 2, which is a really clever idea. If you try it out, you’ll probably be amazed, saying, “Wait, games like this were possible back in the ’90s?!”

On the Super Famicom, Final Fight felt a bit disappointing since you could only choose two characters, but in Final Fight CD you could finally play as all three. Thanks to the CD’s capacity, it brought the closest experience to the arcade you could enjoy at home.
