Romania is undergoing a hybrid social engineering war. What's happening in the next two weeks will influence the Russian invasion of Ukraine and will stress test the European Union and NATO. A large number of Romanians living in Western Europe (red on the map) have voted for Călin Georgescu, the "independent" candidate for the Romanian Presidency. He rose to victory in the first round, invisible in the mainstream polls, with prophetic messages of peace and Christian references, while simultaneously being an admirer of Putin and the founders of the Romanian Legionary Movement, which was part of the fascist regime that resulted in the deaths of approximately 380,000-400,000 Jews and 19,000-36,000 Roma people. He denies that the Romanian Holocaust ever happened, believes that Pepsi contains nanochips as one of its ingredients, and is sure that the moon landing was faked. The rest of the diaspora, living East (blue on the map), have voted for Elena Lasconi, the reformist candidate of USR (Save Romania Union), an anti-corruption party which has gained momentum in recent years following multiple systemic corruption scandals. USR has focused since its inception on state reforms, such as reducing the bureaucratic machine that has been governing Romania since the fall of Communism, cutting the "special pensions" that politicians receive, increasing the budget for Education and Health, reducing corporate and employment taxes, and extending basic rights to same-sex couples through civil partnerships, which still don't exist in Romania. As head of state, the Romanian President represents the country internationally, leads the armed forced, and can decree a State of Emergency and a State of Siege. This is the first time I've seen an explosion of bots and trolls on multiple platforms, from X to TikTok, copy-pasting the same message of support for Călin Georgescu, written in broken Romanian, similar to credit card phishing scams. The brain rot is real and it's happening everywhere!
