In season one of True Detective, Woody Harrelson gets to eat Alexandra Daddario’s ass AND is offered anal sex by Lili Simmons. On top of that, he’s married to Michelle Monaghan.
All while looking like this…
The most flawless action movie series is LETHAL WEAPON. Not a single bad film in the franchise.
While DIE HARD, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE and others are great, they do have their weak links. JOHN WICK is an obvious choice too.
Let's argue. What's the best action film series (3+ movies)? I strongly believe it's Mission Impossible, though I could possibly be convinced otherwise.
The first time I saw this, it blew my bollocks off. The rhythm, the shapes, the footwork…
It might very well be in my top 5 fight scenes of all time.
Leung Kar Yan vs Wilson Tong in The Victim (1980)
The director of NOBODY and HARDCORE HENRY is currently in-production on an Action film starring John Cena, Carla Gugino, Idris Elba, Jack Quaid, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Stephen Root and Paddy Considine. That’s one hell of a cast.
Since he turned 65 today, here’s a minute and a half of pure Yuen Biao genius. One of my favorite action sequences of all time.

Name a film, preferably newish, that, while widely considered great, has you itching to get on your soapbox and shouting "DO YOU ALL REALIZE HOW GREAT THIS IS? WE NEED TO BE TALKING ABOUT HOW GREAT THIS IS. ALL. THE. TIME."
Yes, I just rewatched Phantom Thread.
[1/2] I think Statham deserves the recognition from genre fans that Leung Kar Yan gets. For those that don’t know Leung Kar Yan, he’s a non-martial artist who has the incredible ability to remember and perform complex fight choreography. And look seriously legit…
I have to admit I get a bit upset when we talk about Jason Statham as just a guy who makes dumb action movies. While it’s true his films don’t hide their silliness, I think we take for granted that we are watching a true martial arts cinema phenom at work
I love so many, but let’s be serious here. The Night Comes for Us is one of the greatest action films of ALL TIME. No other streaming movie has a credit like that.
There are some magnificent original-to-streaming flicks, but The Night Comes for Us is by far the best.
A 37 second fight scene with over 50 cuts. Either the editor snorted a cauldron of cocaine or the performers were so shitty, it’s the only way this scene could be saved.
Either way, this is a visual nightmare. One of the worst edited action sequences ever.
Happy 62nd birthday to one of the queens of martial arts cinema, Michelle Yeoh.
Here she is showing off her rope dart skills in Magnificent Warriors (1987).
The Beekeeper’s made $120 million on an estimated $40 million budget.
A true testament to audiences wanting the simplicity of heroes punching evil doers in the face (and chopping them in half with escalators).
If action is done right, we don’t need a ton of bells and whistles.
Corey Yuen was an undisputed king of wire-fu, but he could also pull off incredible grounded stuff.
He was the Action Director on John Woo’s RED CLIFF so he was responsible for this incredible sequence. This is genius level fight design.
Corey Yuen wasn’t just a remarkable director and fight choreographer. He could perform in front of the camera with the best of them.
Here he is showing off some shapes and impeccable spear skills in THE SECRET RIVALS PART II (1977).
I made a quick edit of some of the action in BABY ASSASSINS 2 (2023). While I included a lot of the final showdown, I did cut out how it ends so no spoilers.

Some might say the answer to this question is subjective but they’d be wrong. There is one objectively correct answer and all other answers are null and void.
Go ahead and post another answer. It’s wrong.
Close, maybe. But wrong. This one is right. It’s in the Bible.
Someone had to be the asshole and I guess it’s going to be me.
#MichelleYeoh
is incredible and one of the most talented action actors in cinematic history. But she didn’t actually perform the motorcycle jump in Supercop.
This
#wuxia
short film is one of the best examples of martial arts swordplay I’ve seen in ages. It’s truly stunning.
With the likes of this and
#DonnieYen
’s Sakra being released, I’d love to see a wuxia renaissance.
Editor: What’s the concept of this photo shoot?
Photographer: Chow Yun Fat eating his lunch.
Editor: Is that it?
Photographer: He’s REALLY fucking enjoying it.
Editor: Yes, but we need a hook. A theme.
Photographer: I have one word for you. Denim.
Editor: Genius.
Rewatching this fight from Ballerina (2023), I’m reminded just how excellent it is.
Not only is the action crisp, direct and visceral, it really stresses the fear Okju is feeling, despite her skills. It’s frantic and tense.
I hope Chung-Hyun Lee gives us another film soon.
Everyone stop what you’re doing and bask in the awesomeness of my birthday cake. And yes, the logo is edible.
My wife is fucking amazing (she didn’t bake it but her friend did and she kept
It a secret until today).

I kid you not, this may be one of the best horror films of the last ten years. Every penny of the film’s seemingly budget is on the screen and the result is an incredible cosmic horror with lashings of squirmy nasties and the good ol’ red stuff. Highly recommended.
People are already hating on this film. It looks “cheaper” than Del Toro’s films because, by definition, it WAS cheaper. Don’t let lower budgets put you off.
This looks like a Hellboy/Evil Dead riff that I’m definitely interested in. Looks dark and more “occulty.” I’m down.
RIP Cheng Pei-Pei. We lost a true pioneer today. Someone who walked so Michelle Yeoh, Kara Hui, Moon Lee etc. could run. A true legend in every sense of the word.
Sad news. RIP to one of the most recognizable faces (and legendary villains) in kung fu cinema history, Lee Hoi Sang.
He’s been one of my favorites for a long time now and his filmography speaks volumes as to how hard he worked. So many classics.
Woke up feeling generous today so, for those that want it, here’s the clearest, most cleaned up and remastered-ish version of Shaolin and Wu Tang (1983) you can find. Proper widescreen.
This is the version RZA screened on his 36 Cinema site. Enjoy!
Best all out brawl scene in a film?
Everyone’s saying the prison brawl in The Raid 2 but the apartment brawl in The Night Comes for Us is the superior Indonesian film brawl.
I’ve always thought this fight from Thunderbolt (1995) was such a unique one for Jackie. Sammo brings a very specific energy to the screen. It feels frantic and positively crackling.
Weird angles, perfectly done under cranking both combined with top notch choreography. So good.
Today I learned that Die Hard with a Vengeance was originally a Brandon Lee film?? And once that fell through, it was re-written as a Lethal Weapon sequel?? That film had the greatest journey in cinematic history.
Happy 72nd birthday to one of the
#kungfucinema
greats, Sammo Hung.
From a young age, he was my favourite. The way he moved, the action he would choreograph… It just resonated with me. The man’s capable of pure visual poetry.
Here’s to many more years of the big guy.
I love that he is defending his film this way while also reiterating what
#ActionTwitter
has been saying for ages. Stop calling films “the **insert descriptive term here** John Wick.”
Dev Patel seemingly knows his shit. I hope he gets to discuss the genre in more interviews.
The terms “John Wick clone” and “John Wick ripoff” need to be put to bed unless a film is about someone exacting gun-based revenge after having their pet murdered.
If it’s just a revenge film, it’s not a John Wick ripoff. Revenge films have been around for decades.
[1/4] Doug Liman knew EXACTLY what he was doing with ROAD HOUSE. He knew he couldn’t summon the 80’s cheese of the original so he delivers the perfect mix of character drama and cartoon. It shouldn’t work but it REALLY does. Road House is so much fun.
At its core, we’re given…
#NowWatching
Road House (2024)
I don’t really care if computer effects are used in the fights as long as someone gets punched very hard and very often.
I’ve seen a few people say they were disappointed with John Wick 4 because it didn’t have the realism of the first three films.
If you’re going into a film that prominently features a blind swordsman (who also wields a pistol) and you expect realism, I can’t help you.
We sadly lost another legend today. RIP Mang Hoi (left).
A fantastic actor, martial artist, fight choreographer, stuntman and director. He may not have been a household name but fans of kung fu cinema knew him well. Sad news.
Ma Dong-seok speaks perfect English in Eternals. Why are Hollywood directors not tripping over one another to cast him?
Yes, he’s in his 50’s but he’s one of the greatest action stars working today.
Put him in a Fast and Furious film and let him slap Vin Diesel.
Also, shoutout to Martin Campbell for putting Daisy Ridley in MOTHERFUCKIN’ FINGERLESS GLOVES.
That’s some 80’s action hero type shit, right there.
Nothing says, “I’ll ruin a bad guy’s day” more than fingerless gloves. That’s like wearing two Infinity Gauntlets.
Not gonna lie. This sounds like it could be flames. It’s basically “Daisy Ridley does Die Hard” and that CANNOT be a bad thing.
Plus, Martin Campbell’s in the director’s chair. I know he has a few questionable films in his filmography but when he hits, he hits hard.
I hate to be one of those guys but the new color grading breathes new life into The Raid.
Not only is it like watching it for the first time again, I was able to pick up on much more. Nuances in the fight choreography.
And the violence just pops! What a great watch.

The Raid (2011)
Finally getting around to the 4K UHD. I’m excited to see how the new color grading changes the viewing experience. Plus, I haven’t watched this film in years.
Sad news. Per Jackie Chan, we have lost Corey Yuen.
An absolute legend of the genre with countless classics to his name, whether through direction or fight choreography (and even acting).
His legacy lives on. RIP Corey Yuen Kwai.
It feels like every
#kungfucinema
legend HAS to do drunken boxing at some point in their career. Jackie, Jet, Lau Kar Leung, Gordon Liu etc. They’ve all done it.
Fledgling martial arts movies fans may not know this one. Donnie Yen in Yuen Woo Ping’s Hero Among Heroes (1993)
A character that deserved better…
Vastly superior to Roper, Williams should have made it to the end. He had the charm, swagger and was the next best fighter to Bruce Lee.
His fight with Han is legendary but he didn’t deserve to go out like that.
New poster for Derek Kwok’s upcoming actioner, RAGING HAVOC.
At one point the film was known as The Unleashed Blaze but it looks like they want the title to be closer to Benny Chan’s Raging Fire since it’s considered a spiritual sequel.
Nicholas Tse stars and directs the action.
Cynthia Rothrock is back! As are a shitload of other martial arts stars from yesteryear. Here’s the first full-length trailer for BLACK CREEK.
I’ll watch the shit out of this. Looks like it will be loads of fun at the very least.
Far closer to dark Korean thriller than John Wick clone, MONKEY MAN may be my favorite of the year so far.
Directed with style, it’s an engaging, powder keg of a story that crescendos in ultra violence. Patel is perfect and one hell of a director. Absolutely fantastic film.
