I became a Christian and a son of God by the grace of God on this day 44 years ago.
These words of St. Ignatius of Antioch resonate deeply:
"It is not that I want merely to be called a Christian, but to actually be one. Yes, if I prove to be one, then I can have the name."
Please join me and the people of the Diocese of Duluth I’m praying for the repose of the soul of our beloved Bishop Paul Sirba.
He was so much like Jesus: gentle with people and uncompromising with truth. A true shepherd and father.
“Don’t forget that the saint is not the person who never falls but rather the one who never fails to get up again, humbly and with a holy stubbornness.”
~St. Josemaría Escrivá
It might be a wise idea to be patient with a person’s conversion rather than give them a spotlight.
As Saint Paul noted, a recent convert should not be a bishop.
By extension, we should encourage their conversion to be private.
Maybe we see where our new brother lands.
Great news! We are figuring out a way to livestream Sunday Mass this Sunday at 9:00am CST on YouTube live via Ascension Presents!
Log on and pray with me this Sunday!
Eight PM mass still on tonight at Newman if you can make it over the massive snowdrifts! We will be praying for our beloved bishop on the first day of the new year.
“The Church, following the apostles, teaches that Christ died for all man without exception.
‘There is not, never has been, and never will be a single human being for whom Christ did not suffer.’“.
~CCC 605
“Outrage! Outrage! I can’t remain silent!! I’m on the right side!!”
(At least when it comes to obvious injustices and it doesn’t cost me anything to tweet about.)
~Everyone on Twitter These Days
I’m grateful to God that I have been able to live in the greatest country in the world.
Founded on the belief that God has made us and therefore we have inalienable rights and tremendous responsibilities.

“Some of us have great runways already built for us. If you have one, take off.
But if you don’t have one, realize it is your responsibility to grab a shovel and build one for yourself and for those who will follow after you.”
~Amelia Earhart
This is an incredibly clear, informed, and charitable teaching from Archbishop Chaput regarding this particular branch of the work of

“For while gentle silence enveloped all things,
and night in its swift course was now half gone,
thy all-powerful word leaped down from heaven,
from the royal throne,
into the midst of the land that was doomed...
and touched heaven while standing on earth.”
~Wisdom 18:14-16
"If you wish to go to extremes, let it be in sweetness, patience, humility and charity."

Batman v. Superman is not perfect. But the scene of Batman clearing the third floor of two dozen bad guys will live as THE best Batman moment we’ve received so far.
(I know that this is profound, but I have kept silent on this for too long...) 🤣
"Hey fathermike, why don't you tweet more often?"
"Oh...I don't know. Maybe b/c the one time I do I think, 'This seems like a compelling interview between Patrick and some guy about an alleged apparition I've always wondered abt' and then..."
We will be live-streaming the Triduum Liturgies on YouTube:

Good Friday: 2:00pm CST

Such a fantastic album! I don’t know of any recent Christmas song that is more about glorifying God than
@mattmahermusic
this song and album!

But I’ve grown weary of tweets that merely state a person’s feelings/stance. They seem self-serving and self-indulgent.
So I guess I am guilty of my own peeve. I offered neither helpful information nor steps forward. I ought to take my own advice and simmer down.
Thinking of watching "The Two Popes"?
Have you watched it and thought it was even remotely close to an accurate take?
This should be on your reading list:
@BishopBarron
@JamesMartinSJ
But why this tweet of yours? Saint Newman's canonization is not about SSA, it is about the power of Jesus to transform all of us sinners into saints. Why do you insist on perpetuating an "us and them" narrative?
Praying for all of the UMD freshmen who were scheduled to be at our first Mass on campus today, but whose move in has been delayed.
We can’t wait to meet you!
Meanwhile, students in town join us for Mass at the Cathedral at 6:00pm tonight!
The article is well-written. Thoughtful and kind without compromising on moral truths.
It also reminds me that my brothers and sisters are not my enemies.
I need grace always. Can I offer anything less to anyone else?
Later, I realized that, not only are the ideals the foundation and goal, but that it is my job (as a citizen and not merely a resident) to do whatever I can to help us all get closer to the ideals.

1/2 Maybe I can clarify:
There are tweets that INSPIRE (”This is something to reflect on.”), those that INFORM (“This is something good to know about”) and those that EMPOWER (“This is a solution or an action step that others can take”).
