In case you didn't know, The Abuse Excuse is a book by Alan Dershowitz, where he advocated for giving life sentence to the Menendez brothers and all other abuse victims who fight back against their abusers.
14 year old Lyle Menendez's school essay, “I will change your verdict”, about a man who's sentenced to die for killing a child molester to protect a 12 year old boy. (Lyle found out his father was molesting his 12 year old brother Erik for the first time when he was 14)
I'm never going to understand the people who believe the Menendez brothers were abused but still think they should stay in prison. What a twisted moral compass.
Every time the Menendez case blows up, I feel like I'm in a nightmare. It's nice to see them getting more support, but it also reminds me how much hate there is. I wonder if there will ever be a day when they can live in peace without having to fear for their reputation.
That’s so scandalous I can’t even lie… your boyfriend killed your mom he sitting down for LIFE and you got a new man? Sike 😭😭😭 you gone girl fuck these niggas ahahaha city girls up 100000000+!!!!!!!
Asking "Why didn't they leave" is not a valid way to ignore all the evidence of abuse. You can easily dismiss any victim of long-term abuse with this question. The Menendez brothers had hard proof of SA which is very rare. If you don't belive them, you don't belive anyone.
@drrobiludwig
And by the way, both the Menendez brothers were legal adults when they viciously murdered their parents. If they were being “abused”, why did they still live with them? It’s called MONEY.
Kitty Menendez not only allowed her husband to rape her sons but also abused them herself, both sexually and in other ways. So many people overlook this fact.
The Menendez brothers case is not a joke. It is not a show. It is not a cartoon. It is a real story about real people who endured real pain. It is a story about victims of unimaginable abuse who deserve dignity, and fairness. It is a story that deserves to be told correctly.
"He sings mind-numbing Christmas songs to me over the telephone and in chorus with Talia. He'll leave his radio on one of those stations that only play Christmas music. He tells me that if he was not in prison I'd love the holiday season. He's probably right."
For the first time in 18 years, the
#MenendezBrothers
are back in court with their case reopened with new evidence revealed in our documentary 'Menendez + Menudo Boys Betrayed.'
It's time to vacate their 1996 convictions.
Kitty Menendez's sister, Joan Vandermolen and her daughters, Diane and Karen, said that they can't forgive Kitty for what she did to her sons but they "absolutely" forgive Erik and Lyle and want to see them free.
Marta Cano, Jose's sister and Erik's godmother, testified for the defense and said her brother was a "sick person" who had "tremendous traumas" from his childhood. She also found a letter from Erik to her son Andy in 1988, where he wrote about his father's molestation.
Erik and Lyle Menendez, two brothers convicted of murdering their parents in 1989, could get a new trial based on new evidence presented in a true crime docuseries.

No one who has studied this case thoroughly can believe that the brothers made up the abuse or that they received a fair sentence. People who hate them just saw something on TV 30 years ago and stopped paying attention the second they heard "rich parents"
I've seen people parrot myths about this case and that's bad but you're not one of them. You watched the trial and intentionally twisted the truth about it. You're in a league of your own.
These family members testified for the defense in 1993 and 1996 and have been trying to raise awareness about the injustice they believe the brothers have faced by participating in documentaries and interviews throughout the past 30 years.
But their relatives have been supporting them and advocating for their release for decades. They say they know that the brothers were sexually, physically and emotionally abused and that they killed out of fear for their own lives.
Jose's brother-in-law, Peter Cano, testified that when 5 year old Lyle was being hyperactive, Jose grabbed and whispered something to him that made Lyle "wet
himself," Jose then took the "pale and trembling" Lyle to the bedroom and punched him hard in the stomach.
"The terrible inequity of it hits me, how this sweet, dear young man is being punished the same as some of the most hardened criminals who ever lived in California."
"This one has fallen prey to a nation wallowing in hate."
-Leslie Abramson, The Defense is Ready
Alan Andersen, Kitty's nephew who lived with the Menendez family in 1975 and 1977, remembered that rule as well. He said that he heard noises coming from the bedroom and Kitty stopped him when he tried to find out what was happening.
Andy died of an overdose on sleeping pills in 2003. His mother believes it was because he was traumatized by the outcome of the trial and couldn't cope with the incarceration of his cousins.
Alan's Mother and Kitty's sister-in-law, Patricia Andersen, testified for the defense and talked about how Erik and Lyle
were treated after losing tennis
matches.
Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny will play the Menendez brothers' parents in 'MONSTERS: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story'
S2 of Ryan Murphy's anthology series arrives on

this year, with Cooper Koch and Nicholas Alexander Chavez as the leads
People always say "relatives lied because they loved the brothers"
But then there's the family of Casey Whalen, Erik's friend. They had no reason to lie for Erik. They barely knew him. Why would they lie for the most hated "murderer" in the country?
At 10 am ET we're going live with another Menendez Monday!! Come join!!
Witnesses:
- Kevin Whalen (Erik's classmate at Calabasas High School)
- Kathleen Bulow-Cohen (Kevin Whalen's mother)
The Menendez brothers lost 20 years to their parents and 30 to a rotten justice system. "Long enough" is a huge understatement for a half-century overdue.
The case of the Menendez brothers is more than a family tragedy. It shows how the media, the public and the justice system can shape our perception of guilt and innocence, truth and lies, victims and perpetrators. It's a story that deserves to be revisited and reexamined.
Jose's sister, Teresita Baralt, testified that her brother was "ruthless" with his boys. She said that the family was devastated when Jose and Kitty were killed in 1989, but "it was worse" after the verdicts when jurors convicted Erik and Lyle of first-degree murder.
Andy Cano, Erik and Lyle's cousin and Marta's son, was very close to the brothers growing up. He testified that when he was 10 years old, 13 year old Erik told him the about the molestation. Andy was 15 when the brothers were arrested.
The brothers testified that they killed their parents in self-defense after years of trauma and fear. Their claims were supported by evidence and testimony.

It's a miracle that despite the horrible abuse they endured and their unbelievably unjust sentences, they still have been model prisoners who have helped so many other people. I hope George Gascón makes the right decision and sets them free. They have a lot to offer to society.
"I was actually alive and had the TV on when Kathy griffin was telling rape jokes and I laughed so hard with all of them. But these young people don't appreciate rape anymore and this makes me angry."
The trial started in 1993 and was one of the first trials to be broadcasted on Court TV. This exposed the brothers' trauma and vulnerability to millions of viewers, who were not always respectful or compassionate.
They're all so mouthy and knowledgeable and "watched the trials LIVE!" seconds before these questions and then suddenly they decide that they have better things to do with their lives. How convenient!
@rykaine
@ScarredParrot
Ok, what do you think of Erik's 6th birthday photos? How do you explain Robert Rand’s tape recordings with Donovan? What about Kitty's therapy notes?
Diane's sister, Kathleen, also stayed with the Menendezes during summer and said that the red flags were there when they visited. She testified that whenever Jose was alone with one of the boys, especially Erik, no one was allowed to go near the hallway.
Oh, don't worry, the Menendez brothers would've been showered with love and support if they had just come forward about their rich parents abusing them back in the 80s. Just like how Pax Jolie-Pitt is being treated right now.
The media's bias was evident in the way they covered the trial. They ignored the evidence, focused on the sensational aspects of the case and ridiculed the brothers' emotional breakdowns on the witness stand.
The Menendez brothers became a laughing stock for everyone. So much so that even at the 1994 oscars, Whoopi Goldberg made fun of them by listing them as one of the great acting families for their performance in court.
This moment where Erik, after hours of brutal testimony, had to rush to the bathroom when recounting "the worst incident" of his father's violent sexual abuse was one of the punchlines of the 1993 SNL skit.
After the brothers were arrested in 1990, the media quickly latched onto the assumption of spoiled rich kids who killed their parents for money and greed. This was the only narrative for 3 years until their first trial began.
@FactsMenendez
I’m not gonna waste my time watching it because I don’t care enough. Shooting someone in the back of the head is not self defense it’s murder
Despite the fact that most jurors in the 1993 trial believed the brothers and refused to vote for first-degree murder, the media's mockery and vilification of the brothers continued and had a lasting impact on the public perception of the case.
The most frustrating part of all the Menendez hate to me is this concept that you have to be "the perfect victim" and choose to be mostly kind and merciful with your abuser to have your trauma taken seriously.
@ScarredParrot
People like myself have been researching this case for a long time by watching the entire six month long first trial, reading books and second trial transcripts, speaking to family members and jurors, etc.
Joan's daughter, Diane, lived with the Menendez family for over a year. She testified that Lyle told her that he and his dad were touching each other "down there" when he was 9 years old. She told Kitty about it but Kitty convinced her that nothing was wrong.
Stop sharing that basketball card as if it's some creepy and cool trivia or fun fact. It's not. It's a lie. But even if the men in the card were the Menendez brothers, it's still not a justifiable reason to exploit child sexual abuse victims for entertainment.
Two murderers can be seen in the background of Mark Jackson’s Hoops basketball card from 1990. The Menendez Brothers had murdered their parents and bought court-side tickets with their parents’ money before they were caught.
I see. So you've known about this case for about 30 years. Throughout the past 3 decades, did it ever occur to you to tweet about the time the prosecutor argued "men cannot be raped because they lack the necessary equipment to actually be raped"?
Being old enough to remember and watch the 1990s Menendez brothers murder trials, they tried and failed to use alleged sexual abuse to get away with murder. If they were sexual abused by their father, that does not justify them murdering their parents. They claimed it was
It's honestly sickening, and it also scares me how many people dismiss and mock abuse victims. My heart goes out to the Menendez brothers and anyone that's been a victim of any form of abuse.
Thank you so much for hanging out with us for our very Special Halloween Spectacular!!
If you already have a ticket, you can watch it as many times as you’d like over the next 7 days. If you don’t have a ticket, you can get one and do the same!
Saturday Night Live kept making jokes and sketches about the brothers many times after that. These are some clips from other skits in 1996, 2013 and 2015.
In The Politician, a 2019 Netflix series by Ryan Murphy, two twin brothers, Martin and Luther, who are based on the Menendez Brothers are portrayed as spoiled, entitled, and sociopathic sons who plot to kill their father to inherit his fortune.
@ScarredParrot
We’re not just blindly believing them because they're "hot and sexy". We evaluate and weigh the evidence and come to our own conclusions. Maybe you should try and do the same thing instead of assuming things.
People who hate the Menendez Brothers call 18 year old Erik Menendez "a wise middle-aged man" and then proceed to say that his 37 year old supporters are newborn babies who don't understand.
In 1993, SNL made a sketch on the Menendez trial, where John Malkovich played Lyle Menendez. The sketch parodied the brothers' testimony of sexual abuse and ridiculed their emotions.
Teresita's husband, Carlos Baralt, also testified for the defense and mentioned that Jose told him that he already told the brothers they were disinherited. This contradicts the prosecution's financial gain theory since the brothers believed they were out of the will.
In 1989, 18 year old Erik and 21 year old Lyle Menendez killed their parents Jose and Kitty. They were both sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole in 1996 after two trials.
I watched
@VinnieCourtTV
's show with Rosie O'Donnell about the Menendez brothers. Highly recommend watching the interview but there are some false claims Vinnie Politan made about the case. Here's a thread to set the record straight.
Menendez brothers killed their parents in fear that their parents would kill them after they threatened to expose them for years of sexual, physical and emotional abuse. They had crime scene analysis, medical records, naked photos and 50+ witnesses supporting their claims.
The "Menendez Brothers: Misjudged?" documentary starts with supporters shaming people who say Erik and Lyle Menendez are "hot murderers". People who call them "murderers" clearly don't support them and people who support the brothers do not sexuallize them.

@BaCardiJackson
I wrote a paper on them in high school . They killed 2 ppl , One out of cold blood . If they had only killer their father for molesting them , I would be hollering free them . Their mother was a victim of their fathers abuse as well and they killed her as well with no remorse 🤷🏾♀️

"Menendez Brothers supporters are just horny teenagers who want to have sex with them."
meanwhile people who publicly spoke against the brothers were a bunch of old pedophile sex offenders like Alan Dershowitz and Dominick Dunne who always kept naked photos of Erik with him.
@ScarredParrot
@rykaine
Stop it with this stupid "they all have a crush on the brothers" narrative. Did all the victims' sisters and nieces and nephews have a crush on them? Did all the internationally awarded experts who examined them and studied their case have a crush on them?
Imagine being convicted to first-degree murder for high fiving your brother💀 (btw we're supposed to believe they high fived because Pam Bozanich, the same woman who said "Men cannot be raped because they don't have the necessary equipment to be raped." said so!)
They were first tried separately, with one jury for each brother. Both juries deadlocked, which resulted in a misteral. In that trial, 18 of the 24 jurors didn't vote for first degree murder.
Leslie Abramson spoke with Larry King in 1996 and discussed how the hate jocks were the worst element of the publicity about the Menendez brothers. She referred to a local radio station that hosted a contest called "Fry The Menendi."
@MushKat
People like myself have been researching this case for a long time (reading books, watching the entire six month long trial, reading second trial transcripts, speaking to family members, jurors, etc.). We evaluate and weigh the evidence and come to our own conclusions.
The McMartin preschool molestation trial, a notorious case that resulted in no convictions on any of the 52 counts, was also overseen by Weisberg. That trial's prosecutor, Pamela Bozanich, went on to prosecute the Menendez brothers.
Fun fact: if an 18 year old committed Erik Menendez's "crime" in 2022, it would've meant that you cruel and unusual people are sentencing a kid who was born in 2004 to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
