Conservative Chinese: y’all need to interrogate and reject the psychological wage of whiteness and choose to repudiate any suggestion that Asian Americans are the model minority, deserving to be seen as ‘honorary whites.’ Do not be complicit in subordinating our own rights.

Inspirational. Her novel Human Acts is my favorite. It discusses humanity and dignity in the face of state/institutionalized violence and reflects on the connotations and consequences of collective suffering. Absolutely visionary and congratulations!

@coreyrpayne @DDDrewDaniel assigned Saidiya Hartman’s Venus in Two Acts for early modern lit. The essay interrogates the violence of the archive and its ability ‘to tell an impossible story and to amplify the impossibility of its telling.’ I found the essay provocative and beneficial.
