Our latest Looking Glass Survey found that 30% of industry workers feel lonely – that's 4x higher than the national average of 8%. Vulnerable groups like freelancers, people with disabilities, neurodivergent people, members of the #LGBTQ+ community, #caregivers, and talent from the #BlackandGlobalMajority are even more likely to be affected. Our research also shows that loneliness is a key driver to poor mental health. We need to break the cycle of loneliness in our industry. @all3media @ScreenAllianceW @Screendaily @Broadcastnow @AppleTV @BAFTA @banijaygroup @bbc @bbcstudios @Channel4 @C4Press @tweetCDN @DisneyPlusUK @FremantleUK @IMG @ITVChannelTV @ParamountUK @UKScreenSkills @skytv @SonyPicturesUK @UKTV @wbd @WeAreSTV #britishfilmcommission #universalstudios @Directors_UK @FfilmCymruWales @Film_London @NFTSFilmTV @filminuk_BFC @BBCNewsUK @BBCRadio4 @BBCr4today @Screendaily

In our latest Looking Glass Report we found that 51% of freelancers aren’t being made aware of any wellbeing support or resources while at work, compared to 23% of full-time employees. Plus, only 15% of respondents have been asked to share mental health or wellbeing concerns with their employers. We need better support for all workers. 53% of people who faced bullying, harassment, or discrimination didn’t report it. Even when they did, only 16% saw improvement – Looking Glass 2024 Fears of job loss, of making it worse, and doubting that anything will change are holding people back. It’s time to break the cycle. To mark this years LGBTQ+ History Month, we want to acknowledge the ongoing challenges faced by LGBTQ+ workers in our industry. Our recent Looking Glass Report revealed that many in the LGBTQ+ community are experiencing higher rates of poor mental health, with increased feelings of loneliness, and reports of bullying, harassment, and discrimination over the past year. And it’s deeply concerning that so many are now contemplating leaving the industry because of this. We must do better. Now, more than ever, it’s essential that we show unwavering support for our LGBTQ+ colleagues and friends. If you or someone you know is struggling, our Support Line is here to help. It’s confidential, free, and available 24/7 at 0800 054 0000. Additionally, our Bullying Adviser is available to provide a safe space to discuss any experiences you may have faced. Let’s create an environment where everyone feels safe, valued, and included - together, we can make a difference. #SocialActivism #LGBTHistoryMonth

Last Sunday, TV legends from the Poirot series took to the stage for a very special one-off reunion event - Poirot: The Affair at Marylebone Theatre! 🕵️♂️ With funds raised from the event going towards supporting the Charity, it was brilliant to see such an incredible turnout for an important cause. A big thank you to Callum from Retro Boy for helping make it all happen! 🙏

Please remember, if you've been affected by this story, or you've experienced inappropriate behaviour, you can make an appointment to speak confidentially with our Bullying Adviser -
'Hiding in plain sight': ITV News uncovers multiple claims of sexually inappropriate behaviour by Gino D'Acampo. Dozens of people have detailed experiences described variously as "unacceptable," "distressing" and "horrendous" while working with him over more than 12 years

Our latest Looking Glass research shows some positive shifts in mental health culture, but there’s still work to do: 45% report a positive change in workplace culture towards mental health. 29% see a more positive attitude towards mental health, up from 25% in 2022. Fear of judgment has dropped to 34%, the lowest level since the Looking Glass research began. Bullying and harassment decreased to 41% but is still far above the national average. However, reports of feeling undervalued at work have risen to 38%. We’re making progress, but we must continue working towards a healthier, more supportive culture. Download the full report here.

Our Looking Glass Survey shows that 30% of people in our industry feel lonely, 4x higher than the national average of 8%. And loneliness is a key driver of poor mental health 🧠. This affects vulnerable groups more, including freelancers, those with disabilities, neurodivergent individuals, LGBTQ+ members, caregivers, and talent from the Black and Global Majority. We need to break the cycle of loneliness behind the scenes. Read the full Looking Glass Report 📊

Promoting workplace wellbeing requires more than just support - it’s about providing employees with the tools to thrive. Our latest research shows gaps in employer support: 33% of those responsible for wellbeing rated employer support as poor, and only 29% rated it as good. 26% feel unprepared to provide mental health support to colleagues. Only 53% of employees who experienced mental health issues last year spoke to someone at work about it. Fear of job loss remains the most common barrier to seeking support. A minority of both freelancers and permanent employees report receiving the support, guidance, or practices they need for mental health. We must empower employees with the resources and confidence to prioritise their colleague’s mental health! Read the full 2024 Looking Glass Report.

This year’s Race Equality Week theme is #EveryActionCounts - a call to reflect on how we can all drive equality in our industry. Last year, we launched Reel Impact to support mid-senior talent from the Black and Global Majority in achieving their goals and dreams. Next month, we’re launching the programme's second round of grants, with opportunities for both individuals and organisations. It's with initiatives just like this that we can continue to create real change in our industry. Sign up now to stay updated on the Reel Impact grants application period!

Nearly 2/3 of people considered leaving the industry due to mental health concerns, up from 60% in 2022 to 64% in 2024. And over 1/3 have already taken firm action to leave. It’s time to break this cycle by addressing the impact of working conditions and industry culture. Download the full 2024 Looking Glass Report for more insights.
