The fact that Netflix really waited just a month to cancel 1899. They didn’t even bother giving the show any time to grow an audience. Of course people who decide to watch shows like 1899 are skeptical. I don’t want to know how many waited exactly because they feared this.

I thought a lot about Dark in the past weeks, about how the show would have never been renewed if it was released nowadays. The standards have changed so drastically. Nowadays shows need to bring success immediately (in form of user growth) and Dark only grew over the years.

There a huge difference between using common themes/elements and plagiarising someone’s work. Dark was accused of copying Stranger Things bc similar elements but I read the pitch of Dark (incredible btw.) last year and all those elements were in there before ST was released.

Netflix should change their concept and only release shows laid out for one season cuz the current concept will kill this streaming platform in the future. People will leave and only subscribe sometimes to catch up with shows, but this won’t lead to an income growth.

For those wondering, the contract Bo and Jantje had with Netflix ended with 1899 S1. The only thing that really ties them to Netflix is the fact that Netflix agreed to use their volume in the next years.

One of the biggest mistakes you can make is compare 1899 to overall Dark. It can’t live up to those expectations. Dark started really slow pace and got complex and developed in S2/S3. I would say it was only confusing in S1 because we all didn’t know what we were stepping into.
