Winter precipitation stopped and it warmed just enough to make winter slush. As the temperatures drop into freezing, that slush will freeze to ice. It creates black ice which is actually transparent making it difficult to see and extremely dangerous. Please stay off of the roads

As everyone is waking up to the ice and snow and wants to get out and look at it.... be careful. Icy surfaces can lead to serious injuries. This is not a normal weather situation for Southeast Texas and you may not have proper winter footwear or salt to put on walkways.

Multiple road closures are being reported across the county due to worsening weather conditions. Avoid bridges and elevated roadways and do not drive around barricades. Please stay off the roads if at all possible - it will get worse before it gets better.
