President Trump, do you know the difference between these two photos? Both individuals were hostages and were eventually released. One is Palestinian, and the other is Israeli. The Palestinian was held in an occupation prison, while the Israeli was held in Gaza during a military assault that has persisted for the past 15 months. The Palestinian endured starvation and torture at the hands of the occupying power. The Israeli, while not tortured, suffered from the effects of continuous Israeli bombardments, imposed starvation, the cutoff of electricity and water, and the destruction of Gaza’s healthcare system. The difference lies in this: one captor sought to protect and save a life & that is “Hamas”, while the other “Israel”, aimed for a slow and painful death. One hostage is highlighted by mainstream media, the other goes unnoticed. Both photos were shared on social media, but one was favored by algorithms and seen widely, while the other was buried and forgotten. One is spoken about by the President of the United States, the other remains unknown to the world. One has the backing of wealth and global powers to defend them, the other has only their right to their land to stand on. This has been the Palestinian struggle for over seven decades.
