This is the prettiest Marauder. Look at the sweeping lines, the long, sleek leg design, the "engine nacelles" in the torsos, the looming, swept forward weapon pods in the arms, everything about this is great. It's an exotic, stalking predator.

Clan Wolf, Beta Galaxy is one of the best paint-schemes in Battletech for showcasing 'mechs with clean lines. It's a simple, two-tone combination of a dark gray bottom half with a sandy tan on top that captures a realistic military aesthetic seemingly drawn from Desert Storm.

Classic Marauder compared to the Marauder IIC. I do like the original, it has a narrower profile than the IIC and looms threateningly with those classic forward swept arms and cyclopean cockpit.

Here it is, the completed Turkina Prime for Jade Falcon Zeta Galaxy. Yes, this is a nice update to the original design (better arms and LRM launchers), but I'm not entirely sold on the Starship Enterprise D vibe we got here with the torso.

Originally designed by Tim Skelly and then adapted by Steve Venters, the Madcat/Timberwolf is what I consider to be the most iconic visual design in all of Battletech. The latest version from Anthony Scroggins is a fantastic amalgamation of all the best features of the 'mech.

One of my constructive criticisms of CGL is the boxes. The industry standard (even for small companies) is full color box art.
Good box art not only showcases and enhances the sculpts, it makes you curious about the universe of the game and it creates a distinct vibe.

I see people talking about YAML for Mechwarrior 5. This is the Mech Lab from Mechwarrior 2. Literally everything except actuators was up for grabs.
Developers stopped doing things this way because it made each 'mech a blank chassis differentiated only by weight and hit-boxes.

One thing I really appreciate about the new Catalyst and IWM stuff is the commitment to a unified scale. I know Anthony Scroggins prioritized this and it's way better than the old days where the size of individual miniatures could be all over the place.

Let's talk about angles again. Do not just default to pointing your camera down at the miniature. This 'mech looks like a flat toad from above, but from a side profile at a level elevation all those amazing lines come to life.

For 'mechs with sleek lines, I purposefully avoid breaking them up with camo patterns. If the lines are less interesting or the 'mech is some kind of humanoid design, I'm more likely to hit with it with camouflage.

In Battletech, it's possible to get on top of a hill and then kick an enemy 'mech's head clean off.
It's easy to forget how this kind of detailed and crunchy system of core mechanics allows for some really unusual and flavorful situations to unfold on the table.

Clan Jade Falcon Zeta Galaxy is my other favorite solid color scheme. An exotic jade green with some saturated gray as a secondary color. To me this feels like the essential Falcon colors; malevolent and dark.

Pretty sure this is in Battletech.
Today’s “odd tank” is Object 787 “Gadyuka” (Viper), a prototype armored support vehicle. Based on a T-72AV hull, the main 125mm gun has been removed and the turret instead has a pair of 2A72 30mm auto cannons and two pods of 80mm S-8 Rockets.

Now that I've done this 'mech justice, I do have a complaint. As cool as that center grill might be, I wish it was a solid armor plate so I could STICK A BIG GHOST BEAR INSIGNIA THERE. This thing has very little space for decals in general and that's a shame.

The Dire Wolf Prime is an absolute monster of a 'mech and probably goes underrated. It's FIFTY tons of weapons and heatsinks. The only weakness I've found is the lack of good head-capping weapon leaves it unable to deal a surprise knockout.

Gameplay wise Mechwarrior 5 feels the most like an update to Mechwarrior 2 of anything in the series. The combat pacing is broadly similar, it's just methodical enough to let you pick your shots but if you take too much time you'll get nailed, environments feel expansive, etc.
