Egypt has been militarising Sinai since May. Now Jordan leaks it is willing to go to war to prevent displacement of Palestinian. I wouldn’t read as hyperbole as both countries know another Nakba of Palestinians into their states could break their fragile political systems. Black swans of 2025?

The point Francesca is making here is powerful, and a sign of the moral high ground ingrained in many who are committed to solidarity with Palestinians. Unlike on the Israeli side where resources are abundant and supporters are more often then not paid, trained, and rewarded — standing up for Palestine is often pro-bono, politically and emotionally costly, and in many countries can harm your career or educational opportunities. US and Germany are key examples. The fact that so many have had the courage and moral backbone to speak up for Palestinian rights in the face of massive well-funded attacks is a sign of high-ethics, respect for human dignity and a deep faith in the inevitability of freedom. Francesca is a prime example of that — and there are many more like her who are unwilling to give in until justice and freedom and basic rights are achieved. The inability of oppressors to understand this unwavering commitment is one of their biggest weaknesses.
My detractors cannot wrap their head around it: I am not paid by anyone for my work on Palestine, not even the UN. Special Rapporteurs serve pro bono. And I have so much fun at doing what I do, you know why? Because I despise bullies, mafias and apartheid. It is in my DNA, and I will fight all three happily till my last breath. Now, minions, get a life.

Mind you these men were part of the Gilboa prison break four years ago — a Shawshank redemption style escape from Israel’s highest security prison that inspired the Palestinian street. Their release is going to be a big symbolic morale boost.
Yesterday PA and Jenin Refugee camp fighters made a deal - after a month long standoff - that de-escalated the situation that felt like it could force us into a civil war. Today the reason became clear: Symbolic leaders feel Jenin, Zakaria Zuheiri and Mohammad Arda are being released in the ceasefire deal. The PA would’ve had to phase off a parade of people celebrating their return - as it besieged the camp. That would’ve been a PR disaster. So they backed down.
