#5albums70s3 @MottTheHoople Mott (1973) The first of Mott's glam albums is a mixture of Ralph's US focused blues rock and Hunter's life on the road romanticism which produces the chart hits and the drama. Utterly compelling. Best track - Hymn For The Dudes #buffin #NowPlaying

#5albums70s3 @MarvinGayeForum What's Going On (1971) With a prescient environmental message and cutting edge social commentary, this is as lyrically as strong as it is soulful. A shoo in for a top 5 position, surely? Also, the perfect cover shoot. Try the Detroit Mix - oh my days

#albumoftheday #5albums70s3 @ElvisCostello This Years Model (1978) Peak Costello. Cracking album of frenetic new wave from the best lyricist of the era. Backed by the exceptional Attractions, Elvis smashes it out of the park. Best track - Lipstick Vogue #NowPlaying

#5albums70s3 @queenwillrock Queen - News Of The World (1977) cemented the band's place in the nations heart. They show those punky upstarts how to rock with Sheer Heart Attack. There are some jarring changes of pace, and as ever, the singles are the best tracks by some way.

#NowPlaying @Folk_Devils_UK Goodnight Irony (1987) Just dug this monster lump of swampy swagger out for a spin. A comp of everything they recorded. Why, oh, why weren't The Folk Devils massive? Great titles like Hank Turns Blue and Brian Jones' Bastard Son add to the mystery.

#NowPlaying @FSOLdigital Future Sound Of London - Lifeforms 12" (1994) Nature & technology melt seamlessly in this ambient set. FSOL aren't interested in dancing, and they're not tongue-in-cheek like The Orb, but they will let you float away with Elizabeth Fraser & Talvin Singh.

#albumoftheday Traffic - The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys (1971) #LoveItOrListIt Got this in a collection this week. Upbeat psychedelic prog helmed by Capaldi and Winwood. But should it stay or should it go? #NowPlaying

#NowPlaying @CurtisLMayfield Sweet Exorcist (1974) An ongoing run of classic albums parallel to Stevie Wonder's continues. Sultry love songs jostle for your attention with empowering revolutionary calls-to-arms. Superb, to be honest. Best track - Ain't Got Time

#NowPlaying @JimiHendrix Isle Of Wight (1971) First listen, first impressions - listening to the man in his live element is hearing lightning hitting a lightning rod. A genius channelling an elemental talent. A local radio seems to be coming out of the PA as well - ultra cool.

#NowPlaying @BeBopDeluxeBand Be Bop Deluxe - Live! In The Air Age (1977). How BBD didn't become as big as those bands that supported them is a complete mystery. Exceptional musicians. Great songcraft. Best track - Maid in Heaven. #Metropolis

#NowPlaying Battle - Break The Banks (2007) Very much an under the radar band, and this is an underrated album. Melodic and anthemic airy pop rock. The guitarist clearly likes a bit of early The Edge. Another album that when I'm prompted to play, I really enjoy. Check 'em out.

#NowPlaying @Audioslave - Audioslave (2002) A coming together of Chris Cornell and RATM simply couldn't fail, and it didn't. Heavy duty, mean rock and roll. Lyrics are less political, but what a great voice. Not usually my go-to genre, but I love this album. Best track - Cochise

#albumoftheday @TheSlits Cut (1979) Any reservations about non-classic musicianship are swept aside by the enthusiasm, creativity, dub roots and versatile drumming that stitches everything together. True (post) punk spirit playing right here. Best track - Newtown #NowPlayingοΈ

#albumoftheday @RollingStones Made In The Shade (1975) Wonderful best of compilation from the first half of the 1970's. Singles and slightly deeper cuts from the Jagger/Richards dream team. A car singalong favourite. Best track - Heartbreaker #NowPlaying

#NowPlaying @LongLiveTheJam All Mod Cons (1978) A watershed release for Weller and co. as they up their game with a slice of suburban rebellion that secured their legacy. 60's infused rock classic underpinned by tight punk energy. Best track - To Be Someone #musicsky
