KOALA Crude Oil Tanker, IMO 9234642 with 130,000 tons of Russian fuel oil is sinking in a port in the Leningrad region of Russia. Preliminary, several explosions occurred in the tanker's engine room, after which the vessel began to fill with water. On the night of February 9, the tanker “Koala”was at the third berth in the Russian seaport in Ust-Luga. On board the tanker was a crew of 24 people (including four Russians, eight Georgian citizens and 12 Indonesians). Closer to two o'clock in the morning, about 130,000 tons of fuel oil were loaded on board the tanker. The vessel was already preparing to sail, when three powerful explosions thundered in the engine room. The crew managed to get ashore, but the ship's engine room began to flood with water. Closer to 5 a.m. it became clear that the ship had run aground stern-first. The Russian Emergencies Ministry staff installed booms around the ship. However, according to preliminary data, there was no leakage of oil products into the water. No one was hurt as a result of the incident.
