The attempts by some commentators to explain or excuse the riots is embarrassing. Most have no understanding of the communities they are discussing. This was racist thuggery and wanton violence and those who profess to hold law and order dear need to call it out for what it was.

Also worth reminding the far right thugs who shamed the town yesterday that Middlesbrough is a town based on migration. Everyone who lives there now can trace their roots to somewhere else.
