My current state of the SoCal hard tech map. Although constantly evolving, this map gives a solid snapshot of the SoCal landscape.
One thing that's obvious when comparing to map 1.0 is El Segundo continues to be the most popular, but Hawthorne picked up a few. DM me if you

There is a resurgence in El Segundo, reminiscent of the 1940s aerospace boom, where key industry players, such as Douglas Aircraft, Hughes Aircraft, Northrop Aircraft, and North American Aviation (Rockwell), established operations. Defense is cool again!!!
Great to see lots of attention on the El Segundo defense hackathon. We
@8VC
were proud to help organize.
Defense wasn’t as cool when we started PLTR 21 years ago.
Amazing to see young builders excited about the USA and defense tech, and what they can build in a weekend! 🇺🇸
BTW, this is a screenshot of my map. Some of the original was cut off.
@chindsay20
and I are updating the map for a mid July release.
DM me if you’d like the updated version and/or the April 2024 version.
If you think NorCal has network effects/a monopoly on SaaS talent/companies
SoCal has that type of monopoly on steroids when it comes to Hardware

This El Segundo creative office building has huge hard tech HQ potential. But you'll need the right representation to help you (and the landlord) realize the vision. DM me if you're interested.
I always hear how there is not enough space in El Segundo.
In the last 15 days, 300,000 SF of potential hard tech space has hit the Gundo market.
Lots of good opportunities.

Some hard tech companies are starting to feel this. The rent might be listed as $2.50 per SF, but the company wants the Landlord to pay for all of their improvements, this may increase the rent. Also, remember most Landlords don’t have the capital to pay for improvements…

A random way I’ve been able to help clients get back a few extra dollars in a move:
Help them sell their office furniture.
Sometimes, the new landlord provides furniture. And sometimes, a company wants to upgrade its furniture. In both cases, something still has to be done with

The great thing about today’s economy is that information is available to anyone who actively seeks it.

Most companies go into business with the hopes of being sold or acquired. So, they create outsider shareholder value, or they build & sell.
Anyone who’s ever worked in a business knows that external pressures can manifest themselves in many ways. It’s not all win-win.

Impossible to overstate the importance of this win. Please spread the word. Anduril is proving that with the right team and business model, a seven-year-old company can go toe-to-toe with players that have been around for 70+.

You’re right, they were acquired by Hanwha Robotics.
