Ridiculously proud of my 18 year old son, who got his A level results today, & his university offer confirmed. He'll be reading History at Cambridge.
Many thanks to

They moved to an entirely different place because of his job. They work the same hours. And he thinks it's reasonable he doesn't even know where the hoover is and washes up once a week?
The 1950s called, they want their man back.
This is horrifying beyond belief - the twitter thead of Dr. M Webberley's disciplinary tribunal.
A 22 yr old woman who had multiple suicide attempts, incl within the past few weeks, had history of hearing voices and external commands on behaviour... 1/4
Getting started now.
Chair: new documents introduced, an email chain of specific dates and revised patient chronology.
SJ: Can I deal with those. In terms of the email thread, can I take the tribunal to the email from MW: it goes to the origin,
I have questions.
1. Are officers supposed to point weapons for the lolz?
2. Is this an appropriate image?
3. Did nobody think this image was scary?
4. Police image as grinning, threatening lunatics?
5. "Was, in fact, female" 🤦♀️
6. Have you totally lost the plot?

The whole "more of a woman" thing is just weird. It's not a competitive scale. One person doesn't get 8/10 grades and another 5/10. A female baby who survives to adulthood is a woman.

@HunterDrewTFA
How is a mother in a dress a better mother than an identical one (or the same mother on a different day) wearing trousers?
I'm wearing a dress today. Will I be a worse mother on a beach in Devon next month wearing a wetsuit?
What are potential conflicts between trans & single-sex rights?
There are trans rights which don't cause conflict. Time off work for relevant medical appts, treatment, etc. The protections against discrimination & harassment. The right to be able to rent a flat, or similar. 1/8
Talking about "lactating individuals" is awful..
Firstly, it's just offensive. It reduces new mothers to a biological function. A new mother is not just a birthing machine and milk producer. She's a mother, with all of the implications for her, her family & baby. 1/8

Reading that thread is utterly depressing. The sheer scale of carelessness & departure from any normal medical standards... 4/4

Lloyd Whatshisname MP: I decide what is threatening to women.
Also Lloyd: I had no idea that screaming with rage at a woman, waggling my fingers at her, sitting close & glaring at her would be threatening. No clue. Who'd have thunk?
The utter, unbelievable sheer misoygny of this. One of the first women in recorded history to break out of a patriarchal box, and Amnesty announce she was "really a trans man". Have they no empathy? Historical knowledge? Understanding? 1/3

Saying “Transwomen are women” & “no debate!”doesn't answer any of these issues. “TWAW” doesn't define issues – what does it mean? What is a woman? Who gets to determine this definition? 8/8
@Bex_Stinson
Boxing is possibly one of the most dangerous sports to "include" transwomen in the women's category. All the risks identified by World Rugby, plus actual deliberate punching.
Women should NEVER be expected to tolerate male-bodied transwomen in boxing. It's dangerous.

Stating that those raising the above issues are bigots / fake feminists / acting in bad faith doesn't remove these issues. They still exist. They are serious. They need to be discussed, I think, calmly and in an evidence-based way. 7/8
I think you might fundamentally misunderstand how charity law works, and the Equality Act 2010 to boot. Which is a touch alarming.
It is perfectly legitimate for any charity not to be "inclusive of marginalised groups" because it depends on its purpose, intentions, etc 1/5
LGBA will now be subject to the regulation of the Charity Commission. They must be held accountable for their actions. It is vital for all charities to work in a way that is inclusive of marginalised groups, including trans people.
@essity
"Menstruating persons"? I reckon you'll find this ludicrous phrase causes a lot more irritation & annoyance to women & girls than social interactions do.
This is absolutely ridiculous. In many sports male people have distinct advantages. In some, that makes it dangerous. Rugby is a full-on contact sport. Are

This letter to the Times has everything. Firstly, communication with your children via letters to the Times. Secondly, the ambiguity about whether his mother had two husbands, or one husband with consecutive jobs. Thirdly, the "especially". Fourthly, the "Bangkok" ending.
Andrew Marr: "Is someone who thinks that only women have a cervix welcome in the Labor Party?"

The next day it is "deeply disappointed" that World Rugby has prioritised the safety of women playing rugby.
🧐
We’re deeply disappointed in World Rugby’s decision to move ahead with proposals to stop most trans women playing in competitions they govern.
We stand in solidarity with those who will feel shut out from the sport they love.
Someone who was born female, and grew up female, and is now an adult human female, is trans because she feels she should have been born male and transitioned to female.
What fresh hell is circumgender-trans?
Lewisham councillor comes out to council colleagues as circumgender/trans:
a circumwoman is someone born female & identifies as female, but thinks she should have been born male & transitioned to female, because they feel like they are trans.
My head hurts.

"The deputy registrar called the civil suit an abuse of process and said the court would not be an accessory to Mr Kawshigan's "calculated attempt to compel engagement" from Ms Tan."
I like this judge.
There is a curiously large group of men on twitter who like telling women to give up their rights, their language, their thoughts, their existence as a sex class, how they should "be kind" & how to do womaning and feminism.
Today it's JK Rowling.

I can strongly not recommend coronavirus. While I'm not seriously ill, it's a not a barrel of laughs. Temperature, sore throat, cracking headache, cough, and exhaustion. I've been asleep about 18 of the past 24 hours, and having had tea & paracetamol, going back to bed.
Public facilities. Many TW want to use women's facilities. Many women feel uncomfortable in circs incl sleeping, undressing, medical care, privacy to share facilities with people with male physical characteristics. This is a conflict that requires discussion & analysis. 4/8
Rights of particular groups of women – many women have religious, cultural, personal or historical trauma-related objections to sharing single-sex spaces with non-female bodies. There is a risk of lessening these groups' access to public life. 6/8
Sport. Trans women who wish to take part in sport in women's teams or categories. The conflict here is obvious, I'd suggest. Views, opinions etc vary on physical advantage, tests, hormone limits. There is a clear conflict here. 3/8
The Queen, aged 95 and sitting alone at her husband's funeral without even able to have her children near. Her children & grandchildren, having to sit apart. It feels like a personification of all the people who have died alone, buried alone, mourning alone, in the pandemic.
Forced circumstances. Prisons, for example. People don't chose to go into prison (on the whole!) but there is a conflict between TW in the female estate & other women prisoners. 5/8

I found a very young kitten wandering along a road near my flat in 2004. Took him home to make sure he was OK while I found his owner. He died last year, after a lifetime with first us and then my parents.
TL :DR taking a kitten home for a day or two rarely works.
Kelly "folded a girl like a deckchair" and fractured a coach's ankle. Nicknamed "the beast" by teammates. Apparently this is affectionate. Kelly knows of the physical advantages. "do feel guilty, but what can you do?... I just want to play rugby."2/2

This idea that "womxn" includes black women and "women" does not is ludicrously racist, and ridiculous. Solidarity to any black woman watching this insanity and hope they managed not to heave the telly out of the window.
Helen Islan of Mermaids was the complainant. Miranda Yardley the Defendant. The District Judge chucked the case at half time as no case to answer - defence didn't have to give evidence, it failed even on prosecution version.
The irony here makes my head hurt.

When male born people have been aborted because of their sex, died in infancy, been badly educated and fed, married off as children to old men, suffered childhood pregnancy, abuse and death, then they can represent women.

Basic biology lesson - this is one reason among many why women want to keep uncontrolled (and according to you, uncontrollable) penises out of women's spaces. No matter the gender identity the penis is attached to.
Surely manhood in all its glory is capacious enough, generous enough, diverse enough, to accommodate and perhaps even to welcome a small number of men who want to appear to be or see as women?
@DamoJohn1
@RKDasgupta
@UKLabour
So it's fine when a woman loses a post to a male person who identifies as a woman, but when a man misses out, outrage?
Gottit.
It's a great relief that Parliament in general appears to have woken up to the "pregnant persons" debacle, and to have noticed the concentrated, focused attempt to erase the word "woman" from public life.
All credit to those MPs and members of the Lords who stand up for women.
So, perhaps you should think about your dubious assertion about "marginalised groups" because it's not possible, not true, entirely impractical, and makes it appear you are substituting virtue-signalling for thought. 5/5
