This is the book I've been wanting to write since I started my career in journalism more than ten years ago. Thanks @JennyMHerrera, @JennyyXu and @harperbooks for believing in this project as much as I do. I'm so excited to tell these stories about Black America's search for home

The cursive people are going to have a field day with this
Nevada’s secretary of state, seeing high number of rejected ballots in Clark and Washoe, says one of the biggest issues is that the signatures of younger voters don’t always match what’s on their driver’s licenses: “It’s mostly the fact that young people don’t have signatures these days. And when they did register to vote through the automatic voter registration process, they signed a digital pad at D.M.V., and that became their license signature.”

Like with recent polls focued on just Black voters (, Youth-focused polls have shown a far less dramatic shift in the last four years than the big national surveys. The Harvard Youth Poll found Harris up by 60-32 in the 18-29 demo.
Trump got 28% of the youth vote in 2016. Right now the Cook’s polling average shows him getting 41.5% of the youth vote. That’s 18-29 year olds.

@jodyrosen Right, American Trilogy is a mashup of three songs: Dixie, The Battle Hymn of the Republic and All My Trials. It was supposed to be a song of unity. They, however, played the Dixie part alone tonight.

Realizing people don't know Dixie: It was written for minstrel performers in blackface singing about how good slavery was and the defacto national anthem of the Confederacy, Senator Jesse Helms is said to have whistled it at Carol Moseley Braun, the 1st Black woman in the Senate
