At the 11th hour, just before the trial was due to start, Tony Craig claimed he now had dementia. The judge saw through it - Craig had just travelled unaccompanied to Asia - but the justice crisis came close to allowing both brothers to avoid justice.

An inquest found neglect by the prison contributed to Kay’s death. She had autism and PTSD and was on remand after an acute mental health crisis. Oceana said: “The prison did not try hard enough. They are the reason I lost my mum before I turned 18”
