For those getting mad, this tweet is a JOKE about the shared experience many of us had reading creepy stories in high school English class. I do not want my students to be haunted for life. I want them to love reading and develop a sense of humour.

@mollymcghee I tend to use “there” as a replacement for sir or ma’am, like “hi there, how may I help you?” or “excuse me there, I’m just going to sneak past ya”. It’s not perfect, but using a location indicator instead of a gender one can work when trying to speak with someone specific!.
