EJA supports @ACOSS #RaisetheRate campaign, which they are taking to Parliament again this morning. ACOSS is asking for the rate of JobSeeker, Youth Allowance, Parenting Payment and related payments to be raised to at least $82 a day — the same level as the pension.

We're back! The EJA team started 2025 together in Naarm last week to talk key priorities and strategy before what's looking to be another busy year. With our team now working remotely all across Australia, it was also a nice opportunity to get some overdue photos together.

The aim of these principles is to inform policy that protects the rights and dignity of recipients, accommodates the needs of diverse groups of people, holds space for complexity, and maintains the fundamental purpose of social security as a safety net for those who need it.

We look forward to working with Minister @MurrayWatt and the Department further on reforms that bring us closer to a supportive – rather than punitive – model of employment services.

While DSP eligibility criteria has seen reform in the last couple of years, unfairness remains. Alongside the abolition of this defective requirement, we would like to see employment services that treat people with disability with dignity, i.e. through opt-in services. #IDPWD

We welcomed yesterday's announcement by Govt of sweeping reforms to Centrepay, which has long been used by predatory businesses as a vehicle for financial abuse. Most changes are set to commence from 1 July 2025. Our media release here:
