You can thank Valerie Thomas for that! Valerie Thomas created the illusion transmitter, a groundbreaking technology that made 3D movies possible. Using a system of mirrors and lenses, her invention projected two slightly different images from different perspectivesâjust as our eyes perceive depth in the real world. The key to her invention? Geometry! The careful calculation of mirror angles and the precise alignment of lenses allowed for the creation of a three-dimensional experience when viewed through special glasses or screens. NASA continues to use the device she invented. #CTEMonth #BlackHistoryMonth #MathInRealLife

Fun Fact Friday! đ Want to blow your students' minds and get them excited about math? Tell them about infinity... and then explain the different types of infinities! 𤯠đ˘ Countable Infinity The smallest infinity, like the set of whole numbers: 1, 2, 3, 4⌠You can keep counting forever! đ˘ Uncountable Infinity Some infinities are too big to list, like decimals. Youâll never be able to write them all down! đ˘ Bigger Infinities You can always create a bigger infinity by listing all possible combinations. And it never stops growing! Sometimes, these fun moments of math wonder are all it takes to get students more engaged. What other fun math facts have made a difference in your teaching or learning? Drop them in the comments! đŹ #MathTrivia #MathFact #MathEd #MathIsCool

Jumbo shrimp. Old news. Seriously funny. And what about the phrase âdata rich and information poorâ? Enter data literacy, the fundamental ability to interpret and leverage data and statistics in a meaningful way. Data collection alone doesnât guarantee the systems or knowledge needed to translate it into meaningful improvements for students. Collecting data is an important first step, but it doesnât mean the correct processes are in place to best leverage that data. Itâs sort of like the familiar statistics conceptâcorrelation doesnât imply causationâor in this case, data doesnât imply data literacy. In any educational leadership role, including CTE programs, understanding and applying data is crucial to improving outcomes for students. #CTEmonth #CTEdataqualityinitiative #DataLiteracy #DataCulture #CareerReady

Over 4,000 years ago, the Babylonians came up with a base-60 systemâand we still use it today for time (60 seconds, 60 minutes) and angles (360 degrees in a circle). These ancient math peeps solved quadratic equations, figured out right triangles way before Pythagoras, and even tracked the starsâall on clay tablets that still exist! 𤯠But why base 60? Itâs super divisible, making the mental math simpler. Math really is timeless! #FunFact #MathHistory #MathFacts #AncientHistory

This week, we celebrate National School Counseling Week, an initiative led by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) to highlight the incredible work of school counselors nationwide. These dedicated professionals wear many âhatsâ and provide invaluable support to students. School counselors are a cornerstone of school communities, offering guidance through interpersonal and emotional challenges, listening with care and understanding, and equipping students with critical life skills. They help students explore career and higher education opportunities, often tailoring advice based on individual interests and aspirations. In addition to these vital roles, counselors frequently step into other responsibilities, always with the goal of supporting student success. Letâs take a moment to recognize and appreciate school counselors and all that they do. @ASCAtweets #NationalSchoolCounselingWeek #EducatorsRock

This February, we honor the legacy of Black leaders like Carver, who championed education as a path to empowerment and opportunity. Career and Technical Education (CTE) opens doors for students today, providing them with the skills and knowledge to succeed not just in high-demand fields, but in life as a whole. Itâs a modern reflection of Carverâs vision: equipping individuals to achieve personal and economic freedom through learning. Letâs celebrate the transformative power of education during #BlackHistoryMonth and #CTEMonth. Together, weâre unlocking golden doors! ⨠How has education opened doors for you? Share your story! #BlackHistoryMonth #EducationMatters #EdTech #CTEMonth

Ever notice that in all the seemingly random chaos of nature, patterns emerge? One of those patterns is the hexagon, whose structure is space efficient and uses minimal material to fill areas when there is a need for tightly packing something. You can see examples of this with molecular structures, beehives, insect eyes, and turtle shells. #math #realworldmath #mathed #mathinnature

Math without context is like a cake with no icing or raw broccoli without dip. Sure, itâs edible, but who wants to eat it? Thatâs whatâs so great about Career and Technical Education (CTE). It prepares students for the real world by making connections and providing real context for what they are learning. Check out this engaging CTE math problem called Better Broccoli from Emerald Educationâs Rise Career and Math Mini-Lessons. #careerandtechnicaleducation #mathed #mathinstruction #mathteachers

đđ International Day of Education đđ Education transforms lives and builds brighter futures. Letâs celebrate learning and advocate for access for all! Did you know⌠according to the United Nations website: âEducation offers children a ladder out of poverty and a path to a promising future. But about 244 million children and adolescents around the world are out of school; 617 million children and adolescents cannot read and do basic math; less than 40% of girls in sub-Saharan Africa complete lower secondary school and some four million children and youth refugees are out of school.â #educationday #endlearningpoverty #dayofeducation

đżď¸ Itâs National Squirrel Appreciation Day! đżď¸ Where would our forests be without these fluffy little tree-nut hoarders? Take a break from the more serious things in life to appreciate these acrobatic tree rodents. A few fun facts about squirrels from The National Wildlife Foundation: âžThey are scatter hoarders, stashing their treasures in multiple locationsâand yet they still lose about 25% of what they gather and store to thieves. âžWhen sprinting away from predators, they run in a zigzag pattern. âžThey have been seen engaging in deceptive behaviors, such as digging a hole and pretending to bury their food. #squirrels #squirrelappreciationday #squirrellovers #natureobservation

On this day, the third Monday of January, we celebrate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a leader who championed the causes of unity, nonviolence, and equality during the Civil Rights Movement. Through powerful words and peaceful protests, Dr. King challenged the injustices of the Jim Crow era, fighting against the deep racial discrimination that persisted long after the Civil War. His unwavering commitment to justice and equality helped bring about monumental changes in the fight for civil rights for African Americans and inspired people worldwide to stand up against oppression. Dr. Kingâs dream of a world where individuals are judged by the content of their character, not the color of their skin, continues to resonate deeply. His teachings remind us of the importance of promoting understanding, compassion, and fairness in our communities. Let us honor his legacy not just today, but every dayâby standing against injustice, spreading kindness, and working toward a peaceful, inclusive, and brighter future for all. Together, we can help keep his dream alive. đâ¤ď¸ #mlkday #martinlutherkingjr #ihaveadream
