It has been a very active night and early morning in Kentucky and spreading into West Virginia. Numerous severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings have been required. The chance for a few aggressive storms will spread into northwestern NC primarily this evening.

It's a quiet and chilly Monday morning with areas of fog in some locations at 8am. Any fog will soon erode, and a fantastic day will unfold.

Early morning reports indicate that the Crooked Creek fire in McDowell County is now 55% contained. Evacuation orders are set to be lifted at 8am. Winds will not be a big issue today, and humidity levels will continue to creep up. This will help with containment efforts.

It is another windy mountain morning with winds gusting 40-50mph+ in the High Country. A Wind Advisory is in place for the northern mountains and foothills today as the breeziness continues.

Shouldn't be a widespread problem, but watch out for some icy/ slick spots on some area roads this morning. Following a damp and occasionally foggy night, temperatures are now dipping below freezing in many areas.

Some rain is moving through the region this morning with the heaviest rain during the 5am hour in the southern piedmont and Sandhills. Some snow is also flying in many northern mountain locations. This precipitation will wind down the deeper we get through the morning into early afternoon.
