Phew, took me long enough... Ness's house is now pretty much fully detailed. This one was pretty fun to reimagine! Work has been pretty demanding lately, so progress is a bit slow, but the project is still going strong.

A bit of trivia: the original game had some really nice concept art which I have been using and comparing to get a better idea of the 3D spaces as they were imagined.

Godot Engine 4.0 alpha 1 was released a few days ago, so I experimented porting a few elements from the project to it, out of curiosity. The new sky shader feature seems particularly interesting, changes to the sky can be reflected in real time!

The new global shader uniforms in Godot 4 are really useful for weather details: the wind vane actually points to the defined wind direction and the grass also visibly moves in its direction. Wind strength and speed can be defined, too.

Since I haven't really worked on Picky this week and I have to celebrate both 11K and 12K at once, I'm doing another live stream continuing where I left off from last week! Feel free to join in for a bit of UV and texturing.
Started modeling him live and it's pretty much finished now. We have the cool guy with glasses model, and he can talk, too!
I'll probably do another poll for the next live stream. Hopefully I can show some more of the later processes this time around.

This is the result of around 2 hours of work done during the live stream! Got a base shape going and from now on it's a matter of polishing it.

After a couple more hours of work, this little guy is on his way to looking much better!
*Adjusted his head shape to have a less strange (lack of) chin
*Adjusted proportions a bit
*Detailed the hair a bit more to guide my retopology
*Added shirt collar model
*Added proper hands
The people have spoken and this guy here has won the poll!
I'll spend some time setting up the stream to model him live, so expect that to happen around the next week.

So... I thought about something to celebrate 11K followers and you guys just kinda smashed through it directly to 12K! I haven't prepared anything, so I am improvising a live stream doing some game model preparation for Picky. Starting soon!
By using Godot 4 more frequently I now see that it probably would be much harder to finish this demo properly without the new 3D features, so I believe this is better for the project overall, even if a solid release takes a bit more time.
As always, I am very thankful for yet another year of great support from you guys, it warms my heart to see such positive reaction to the work I've been putting on this project. Happy new year and see you soon!
I had a plan to release a short concept demo before the end of 2022, but Godot 4 ended up being usable before I expected, so I started porting from Godot 3 and that took some of my time, so I would like to ask you to wait for few more months as I finish up the content.

Second, I have created a site for the project at , where you can read more about the project, consult a FAQ based on most questions I have received here, and download goodies like wallpapers and the soundtrack itself, outside of bandcamp. Free and lossless.
I am a music producer at heart and creating these arrangements was really fun! I'd love to hear what you all think about them, as this is probably one of the best aspects of this series we know and love, and satisfyingly arranging them is definitely not an easy task.
I've also updated the Bandcamp album to include the orchestral intro of Good Friends Bad Friends used in the trailer, which is an exclusive original arrangement I created for the occasion. You can get it over here:

I did use the Smash model as one of the references, but this one was sculpted and retopo'ed from scratch, like the other characters I've been modeling. The proportions and details are slightly different and it has support for facial expression blend shapes, too.
