The asshats on here are really triggered by this offer of support. And just for that reason we are ordering even more new signs for this community. 🏳️🌈 💪

You are a fucking disgrace. The glee with which you continue to reshare these images is, frankly, disturbing. And in this month. What the hell is wrong with you?
I see
@MarkGerretsen
is looking at old photos tonight.
You’d think Liberals would want to stay away from that.
You’d think they would want people to forget the photos of Trudeau showing off his racist behaviour.
This morning I was asked for comment on behalf of the Federation of Ontario Law Associations in response to remarks from Premier Ford about his patronage appointments to the JAAC and casting of aspersions on the work of lawyers on this committee. Here's what I said:
400 common sense Canadians came out tonight to our Fort Frances Axe the Tax Rally to send a clear message to Trudeau and the NDP.
Sign to axe the tax on gas and food, and give Canadians a summer break:
I am going to be really disappointed in Northwestern Ontario’s marketing brain trust if they miss the opportunity to open a

Our firm received this email through our contact form tonight. I don't think that it’s representative of Albertans or people who live in
#Westlock
, despite what those in my mentions might want me to believe. Nonetheless, it is disturbing how emboldened this hate has become.
I’ve been doing 2SLGBTQIA+ work in NW Ontario for 7 years. In the beginning, it was tough but we seldom had to deal with “groomer”/“pedo” smears and conspiracies, just sundry ignorance. But now, I’m targeted by a new local hate campaign on social media every few days. 1/4
@JanisIrwin
Well done. Here's my parent's small United Church in Emo, Ontario in 2020. The municipal office, 1 block away, had refused to recognize Pride Month that year.
Wow. The Liberals are on fire in the HOC today with
@AnitaAnandMP
& other ministers.
@SeanFraserMP
is roasting Cons like he’s Godzilla. Poilievre is looking rattled, tired and losing self-confidence. I’m cheering out loud here.
Canada has a choice.
Do we want to talk about the housing crisis, or do we want to solve it?
As for where the federal government stands: It's time to build.
Premier Doug Ford says he is “tripling down” by saying he wants “like-minded” judges. He gets a standing ovation from obedient Tory MPPs for his thundering blast against judges.

@debbierachlis
How do police come back from this current debacle? I think that many people - who aren't politically inclined or have never been on strike, demonstrated, or protested - are very disturbed by the apparent double-standards and inconsistency.
Few political scenes are more pathetic than watching rage-baiting political lifers like Andrew Scheer and Pierre Poilievre - neither of which have ever built anything, had a real job, or been part of a profession - try to claw at the credentials or wisdom of Mark Carney.
More evidence of
@CNRailway
’s stellar maintenance record in NW Ontario. This bridge collapsed today, cutting off the rail link between Fort Frances and Thunder Bay. It has also cut off boat access in a navigable waterway. Slow clap.
My little birds report that Poilievre showed up at an event tonight in Thunder Bay to, among other things, point fingers at local prosecutors for violent criminals being released…. prosecutors that are part of the **checks notes** Ontario PC government. 🧐

What is bizarre is that this is a new phenomenon. These people were here all along, so why lash out now in such numbers? It seems clear that they have been manipulated (groomed?) and emboldened by right-wing politics and algorithmic online hate. 3/4
When they try to tell you they convoy has been a “peaceful protest”, they’re either lying, in denial, or victims of algorithmic misinformation.
The people and businesses — including in my community — who funded and cheerleaded it should be deeply ashamed. 1/
Borderland Pride has also uploaded the PDF artwork for the signs to the Google Drive link below. The files are formatted to 16" x 24" for any individuals or organizations looking to print additional supply for the community.
Seeing this commentary normalized in this way is incredibly disturbing. Watching people who know better stay quiet, shrug it off, “both sides” or placate the deplorables is altogether dispiriting. 4/4
@evandeneykel
Honestly why don't they have an alternative to CTRL+V that does this yet? I am constantly having to find ways to remove formatting or Paste Special>Plain text.
(And before the Mac people chime in, I'd just like to point out that their system doesn't even have a Cut function.)
It’s not a contest. You want a veterans’ crosswalk? Great. Did you write to your city council about it? Apply for funding? Do anything? No? See, this is a stupid “whattabout” — if you want nice things in your city, do 👏 the 👏 work 👏.

"I'd always rather work with provinces, but if we have to I will go around them and be there for Canadians," Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says when asked about the premiers' letter outlining their response to federal budget 2024 and concerns over federal overreach.

It’s been particularly relentless for the past month. Almost every local group post that so much as mentions Pride or the queer community will attract commenters equating me with child predation or pedophilia (which is defamatory — watch for the FAFO posts later). 2/4
No, there is nothing confusing about the word “woman”, it’s common sense.
It’s not hateful, bigoted, wrong or unfair in anyway. This is just complete nonsense that moves nothing forward. It’s not “progress”.

Here is the definition from the Oxford English Dictionary:
Advice to Jr. Lawyers: 1st work hard - arrive first, leave last and outhink everyone. As a lawyer there's an expectation that you're good - most aren't, says Justice Donald McLeod. 2nd, sometimes you have to push your way in - don't wait to be asked.

This is also the deer-in-headlights look you get when you ask self-proclaimed allies in the Conservative caucus about the anti-2SLGBTQIA+ rhetoric coming from their party.

Thank you to
@PnPCBC
for having me on today to share

' reaction to Premier Ford's comments this morning, where the Premier politicized the judicial appointments process. You can catch the clip from today's broadcast here:
For those who haven’t seen reporting on it in the media, below is the full text of the statement from former provincial court Chief Justices Linden, Lennox, and Bonkalo concerning the Premier’s attacks on the independence of the judiciary.
Pretty gross attack from someone the Liberals funded with $1 million tax dollars.
Value for money isn’t there. You forgot to tag others who are openly gay and aren’t Tories.
Never forget that Government funded radical ideologues are here to divide people.👇

We heard
@PierrePoilievre
was in
@fort_frances
tonight. Seeing as neither he nor his MPs will meet with the

@borderlandpride
sent an emissary. (No PP, but our poor unicorn had a lot of climate change denial screamed in its blow-up face.) 🦄 🏳️🌈
This video, and especially the final flourish, is perfect. Well done
@SeanFraserMP
. This is Pierre Poilievre’s “didn’t come home for you”/“not a leader”.
Added pronouns to my Twitter bio. An article in

Oh do kindly fuck off, Stockwell Day. No one needs to take lessons from the likes of you on 2SLGBTQIA+ issues in Canadian society — issues you have spent your career making worse.
Polls now showing declining support for LGBTQ, etc. rights. So now watch for mainstream media stories about society being phobic and hateful. No. Most people are in fact quite tolerant. But most people are also tired of the LGBTQ activists weaponizing and forcing their agenda.
@douglaskerr
What is more troubling is that my trolls aren’t anonymous. I live in a community with a 4-digit population. They know where I live. I know where they live. My family members have to do business with some of them.
The physicians in Rainy River, ON announced today their withdrawal of services to the community. This comes just days after an area ambulance base closure. Access to health care and emergency services is becoming a crisis in rural NW Ontario.
My client Autumn Windego has chosen to go public with her story, after she was threatened with removal from her home on Rainy River First Nations by the community's Chief and Council. 1/7
Today we secured another five-figure defamation judgment against a local too-online dude who decided to make a number of public comments “expressing or implying” that I “promote[]/advocate[]/engage[] in sexual activity with children and/or animals”. The citation is 2024 FAFO 2.
I keep seeing articles and threads about how Gen Z isn’t computer literate outside of iOS handheld devices, select apps, and multimedia editing. Did millennials just happen to grow up in the sweet spot of having to troubleshoot their own Windows ‘95 hang ups?
Seeing as my account is lit this week, I am going to drop a shameless promo for this event in
@fort_frances
that our firm is sponsoring on Friday, March 1. The local

It must be really degrading for people in the CPC caucus like
@Eric_Melillo
and others to watch this guy's behaviour and have to hold it out as leadership material for the country. This behaviour is petulant, mean, and disgusting.
Hear that? It’s the sound of the rage. Political rage. Rage at incompetent public transit agencies. At brown envelopes from developers at wedding socials. At over-budget and delayed infrastructure projects. At perceived-to-be-revolving-door criminal justice. 1/9
After a rock smashed their window, Thunder Bay’s Bay Village Coffee received this letter. It says “God reminds us kindly but firmly about the consequences” of homosexuality. I’m proud of this

#Kenora
. Here’s my column from this week:
One of my new year's resolutions is to remove our fax number from all civil litigation materials, letterhead, websites, and signature blocks. I am going to drag any remaining luddites among opposing counsel and their assistants kicking and screaming into the 2000s.
Bang on,
@PattyHajdu
. Our clients in the drag community were libeled and threatened by people citing conservative rhetoric and leadership figures. Area MP
@Eric_Melillo
has been ducking these queer constituents for almost a year.
This is deplorable.
@CPC_HQ
MPs are refusing to meet with 2SLGBTQIA+ groups. People are scared.
We know
@PierrePoilievre
is in town. Show some leadership and hear them out. Meet with them.

The truth is all there, on film. I’m not just talking about the Nazi flags, the white supremacist symbols, or the transphobia.

In Rainbow Alliance Dryden et al v. Webster, the Superior Court ruled that "groomer" rhetoric targeting our clients - a drag king and a Pride - is not public interest expression protected by Ontario's anti-SLAPP laws. Here's our take on the decision: 1/2
My local newspaper surveyed mostly white people and senior citizens and ran an entire page today where they were allowed to anonymously trash me and make racist objections to renaming

Earlier this week I posted a series of unpleasant messages I had received from a constituent as an example of the type of unwarranted abuse that public officials take online. The constituent has apologized, and I have accepted his apology and removed the post.
I'm saddened for the families in

We've been busy over the holidays! Starting January 1, 2023, we will begin practicing as

Take a six-day trip to Europe and everyone in NW Ontario will ask why you'd go "all that way" for such a short time. The same people will a drive 900 km roundtrip in a single day to go to Costco in Winnipeg.

How very lawyerly, restrained, and professional.
Does the Law Society of Alberta appreciate this level of candour from a he/him who claims to represent fairness and justice without emotion?
How would I know. I’m just an old gay man from Alberta
On February 22, the Federation of Ontario Law Association wrote to the Chief Justice of the Superior Court to relay concerns from the bar about the court’s expectations (as set out in practice directions) regarding the use of CaseLines:

Perhaps, if we are going to cling to these absurd costumes in the era of work-from-home, we can agree that wearing a gigantic sleeved cape for seated advocacy in your home office is really impractical. Isn't the waistcoat enough?
At risk of sounding unemployable, I have been thinking a lot lately about how having my own practice has allowed me to choose my own clients, files, and even schedule - and how hard it would be to give that up. Become (professionally) ungovernable, kids.
I am going to be undiplomatic: this is f*cking obnoxious. If the
@SCJOntario_en
would like to come and remodel my home office, they are welcome to do so. Gowning, rules about beverage glasses, now the paint and “professional” trappings of my own home/office?
Yesterday I received my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. I am very grateful to the health care staff who administered the clinic I attended. It was a quick, efficient, and painless process. Please get vaccinated as soon as you are eligible. 💉🦠😷
That is categorically NOT what a Premier, any Premier, is elected to do. Intentionally tainting the judicial process is reprehensible but sadly not surprising for this man.
