Using GLMMs and LMMs? If you haven't read this paper, you should! A great summary of major issues we face with model selection (though our choices are still deeply imperfect/we have a long way to go)!
Bottom line: hard thinking is always preferred.

Wow, big news! USFWS is proposing Threatened status under the Endangered Species Act for

(Pinus albicaulis). I am surprised, frankly. Also grateful to have led the climate change impacts of the species status assessment for the Sierra Nevada.
From the Sierras to the Rockies, I'm hard pressed to hike anywhere without documenting tree death.
A dead tree at high elevation != a dead tree at low elevation. High elevation forests grow and die very slowly. This rapid change is really scary to witness.

Show me the dirt and grime you are working with!
I'll start: This, after a few hour scramble while wearing pants!!
The forest understory is often the most diverse and under-appreciated forest layer.
Should we conserve this undervalued source of biodiversity?
This rare, long-term dataset helped identify win-win forest treatment outcomes.

Just like people, wildflowers have their own unique story, substrate, seed, and hope. No two flowers are the same, no two fleeting experiences the same. Perhaps this is why we are drawn outside each spring to experience their unique unfolding.

How to go Calochorting:
1) Don't compare—they're uniquely beautiful
2) Handle w/ care—they're delicate
3) Be on time—they often close at dusk
4) No one-night stands—they're perennials
5) It's all about location—serpentine soils are best

Then, @ 6:15 AM, my failure turned into unexpected magic; the sunrise whispered, "It's all about the journey!"
