Comedy Central needed a rage-filled nerd for a sketch and I'm happy to say I am the rage-filled nerd they went with. A huge thanks to Tim Barnes (who wrote this gem) for bringing me onboard. Watch it here:

Last night at the @astoriabookshop Storytelling Show we heard about befriending a homeless neighbor, suing your boss and winning, Berlin Wall checkpoint, recovering from a burn injury, unexpected nudity, moving, 6th grade, Austrian Jewish reparations, and much more. Next show 3/6

Hot coffee and a bagel with a jalapeño cream cheese schmear. The mixture of cold weather, hot coffee, and the spice of that jalapeño in a schmear is a New York City wintertime must for me.

Today I saw No Other Land at Film Forum. An incredibly powerful documentary made by two Palestinian filmmakers (Basel Adra and Hamdan Ballal) and two Israeli filmmakers (Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor). Despite an Oscar nomination it currently lacks a USA distributor.

I got stopped by the NYPD today moving through a non-moving subway car at a terminal station. Officer asked me if I’d been arrested before. I guess my “No” got me off with a warning. I wonder what would have happened if he noticed I was reading a book on prison abolition…

#FridayReads: When Nino Cipri posted on The Astoria Bookshop IG “What kind of books do you want to read? I'll suggest a trans author.” I asked for “A funny yet dark memoir.” They suggested Faltas by Cecilia Gentili. And it was absolutely those things. Great book. Thanks Nino!

The NYC Department of Cultural Affairs has the acronym DCLA. Not DCA. The Department of Consumer Affairs was DCA in 1969 and DCLA came along in 1976 with that awkward L. Yet! DCA was re-named the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) in 2019 and now nobody is DCA.

For 3+ decades I’ve seen many “Look how bad the DC NFL team is” infographics. Including this one that aired last weekend as the Washington Commanders advanced to today’s NFC Championship Game. Oh what a difference a new owner, new GM, new coach, new QB, and a new name make.

In the crowd last night for English. A brilliant language choice by playwright Sanaz Toossi, executed so well by a great cast, all on a revolving set that shifts our angle on this place and characters in very effective ways. Broadway debuts for most of cast and crew. I loved it.

One of the new elevators at Queensboro Plaza which finally opened last month. I’m happy to see that the only NYC Subway station with a cross-platform transfer from a lettered line (the N and W) to a numbered line (the 7) is now accessible.

Last night I read stage directions for Stroller Scene’s reading of He's Actually a Really Nice Guy by Micharne Cloughley. A one-woman play performed by Marlowe Holden. For weeks I hoped being part of that reading on that day would provide some artistic solace. And it did.

In the crowd tonight for the final No Name and a Bag O' Chips show at QED under Kambri Crews’ ownership of the space. One of those nights where the cold and the snow outside had the audience coming in with a charge, ready to laugh and have a good time.
